One-way gone bad
I flew two flight with my fbl- protos today. Before third flight I noticed that the one-way bearing on that 14t pinion had jammed solid.
So I came home and took it apart. Here´s what I found. One-way bearing had broken in pieces and cut grooves on the adapter. Any ideas on what went wrong? Bad setting / bad bearing / bad luck? Setup is 6S Lipo (Turnigy 40-50C 2200) Hyperion HS3026-0880 motor and Jazz 80 esc. So it has some punch.. Last edited by JiriK; 07-23-2010 at 02:29 PM.. Reason: more info |

It's probably just not pictured but your top bearing isn't there.

Pinions.... Heres a vote for a 2x stronger small pinion one way system. I'd like to run one but I'm not touching this setup.
Tach'd mine today, wow it was at 2900rpm ID1, ID2 just over 3000! Guess the crazy hot weather has the lipo's cranking out the power. Its very snappy. |

Do you think the 3rd bearing support in the stretch conversion kit will help?
I sure hope Corrado releases the 3rd bearing support with drill bit+jig for non-stretch flyers. |

I don't think it will help with the type of wear pictured. A much harder shaft would help and a larger/additional one way to help spread the load would help.

I´m back at 15t pinion..
But what is that duck quack -like sound during high power climbs, tictocs etc? Belt too loose and slipping or is this one-way bearing slipping? Don´t remember hearing that sound so much with 14t pinion, but then the belt was tighter too.. |

I suppose it could be either but I'd guess it's your belt slipping.

Sounds like a belt slip to me. More often the pinion lets go completely, its hard to miss that.

The bearing is to small for a 15T adapter, unless MSH comes out with an adapter that has a small diameter on the top.
