Mini Protos on 4S
Does anyone know if 4S lipos are feasible with the 2580kv stock motor and the smallest pinion they offer (14T). I would like to use 1750mah 4S packs with this bird.

ReadyHeli's headspeed calc indicates between 3.6 and 4.4k on 4s and that video says 3.75k, not sure what flight times would be though.
On an unrelated note, is it me or is the Mini-P in the video running metal blade grips?

Blade grips were metal because mold was not ready yet at the time. All videos from ircha are on plastic grips.
If running it on 4S with stock motor make sure you limit throttle curve to have reasonable headspeed, do not exceed 3500 headspeed. That is a nice feature of having a good esc with great partial load ability out of the box Corrado

Scorpion 2221-2010 should good for 4S, with the low gear ratio on the mini Protos. More "turn" = more torq less amp draw. And the governor mode will like it.
For 6S, 2221 -2010 can be modified to "wye terminate" from stock "delta terminate". That should drop the kv, from 2010kv / 1.74 = 1155kv, 15T-16T. Again "wye terminate", equals torq -1630 is already wye terminate of 2221-10. |

I have a 2221-10 and want to go to 6s. I was flying this motor on 4s and i loved it, but 6S. must be much nicer
So is it easy to convert my 2221-10 to a 2221-1630 Blades_Cuts? |

I wont say it's easy, but it's not complicated either. Time consuming, specially if it's your 1st time doing it. I suggest you read on this link, before attempting it, or decide if you really want to try. Scorpion used a very thin wire guage that you have to separate and regroup to convert from delta to wye termination. You have to test for continuity so you know what wire belongs to a group. That's the hard part.
I already did it twice. It's doable, but it requires patience the 1st time. The next one I'll be doing is a full rewind to get to the spec I want..... |

do the 6s 1300 -1500 mah packs fit on the mini with the canopy? how does it balance out? im thinking of buying this kit and still have an old z power motor left from a g5 and a align 60 amp esc

I fly mine on 4s on the stock pinion. The YGE is a fairly good ESC and seems to do well running 55% TC.

Interesting. What size packs are you using? Any canopy fit issues?

14T brakes on high load
I cannot recommend the use of the 14T pinion on 4S. Mine broke during flight. The outside is very thin and contains a one way bearing. When you give a full pitch impulse pressure is released from the one way bearing to the pinion breaking it. A 14T pinion may be solid enough for beginners, but it is definetly not for hard 3D.
I now use the 15T pinion getting about 3700 rpm at 65%. Hopefully it lasts longer. The Hyperion 4S 2100mah 25C batteries I use are just a perfect match for the small protos. |

Holy Headspeed, Batman!
I flew mine yesterday at 3100 and thought it was crazy... I can't imagine 3700.

... headspeed 3700 rpm? it is hard to believe...
... 3800 rpm is the calculated (!) maximum (incl common deduction of 20 percent system-efficiency...) you can get with the stock-motor and15-pinion on 4s.... (14,8v * 2580kv / 8 gearratio * 0,8 efficiency) so - you have got no 65% in the tx-manual, or no stock-motor.... or there was something wrong with meausring the rpms.... macem |

See video description text for details. Headspeed is about 3750rpm. A very good choice, if you ask me |

... i know the vid, but i distrust the video description also ...
... even lungi cannot neutralize physics... but i may be wrong if the hyperion/scorpion/protos-kombi works without losses of efficiency or/and lungi runs the stock-pinion... the hyperion lipo is inspiring, indeed.... regards, macem |
