Default Dumbfounded with Kosmik

This is probably something simple I have overlooked but here it goes:

Brand new Kosmik, brand new set up. Everything works great on the bench with blades off, spool up nice revs nice both 1600 and 1900 rpm any stick positions.

I went to the field to fly, put blades on, spools up and stops, it seems the Kosmik just shuts down. does it every time. I take the blade off no problem. I put some restraint on the motor to prevent it from turning(just slightly), bingo same again.

So it seems like the Kosmik shuts down under some load. What did I set up wrong

You not the only one having a few issues with the kosmik. Mine does not even want to arm. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not. I tried everything. So much so it made its way back to visit home. Waiting to hear the results.

Stupid question, but you did set voltage to 7.4V? Mode 1 to mode 4 done? Checked to make sure you have latest firmware? Checked soldering joints?

I also found moving the head quite stiff and relaxed the tail tension ever so slightly to make it feel hust a tad easier. Apparently it gets better after 10 flights or so...

It works perfectly without the blades on or restraint on the motor so I think it is something to do with a safety inside the kosmik that makes it shut down but not sure what I set up wrong in the computer program.

Otherwise yes mode 1 and 2 done and voltage set.

Sorry just realized I posted in the Henseleit forum instead of Kontronik

Have you checked the startup power limit? I believe the default is 100A.

There were reported case that the motor jitters then stop but this does not sound like your case. This is caused by the magnets out of phase. Turning the motor can a bit fixes the issue.

Should do mode 1 and 4. Not 2

I had mine spark and billow smoke when we connected battery for the maiden.
This was after bench testing and everything was ok.
No possible way to connect batteries wrong.
I thought it had fried out.
Brought it home from the field double checked everything and with no changes it has worked perfect. Only noticeable problem is smoke stain between the polls. There has to be an easier way to exchange these than waiting the whole flying season to ship back and get a new one sent .

Confirmed my start up amp limit is at a 100 amps. Gear lash and smoothness of gear train all great. This is a TDR 1 as smooth as it can be (my second one). Pyro 700-52 with 2 X 6s 5000mAh batteries for a 12S set up

I am posting screenshots of my set up. I hope this will help find the cause.

Last one I set up I had all sorts of issues, thought it was broken it acked weird. Motor jiggled back and forth made odd sounds would not run.
Finally got it, not sure which of these things did it as I shotguned allot of changes.
Anyway...
Using the bluetooth module I reset to factory defaults, set helicopter mode, then on transmitter signal curve screen set the values for 0-100%. Also manually lowered that brake setting to a very low value one which the transmitter would never reach.
Set the poles and put in a gear ratio for the helicopter. Had been setting the poles but leaving the gear ratio alone. Not sure why the Kosmik needs to know gear ratios as it just governs motor rpm? Did it anyway.
It works fine now.

If you don't set correct gear ratio, logs will not show correct rpm.

Hi there,

A gear ratio 1.00:1 can never be correct.
I don't know about your motor pinion but even with 13T on 12S it should have read 12.36:1
You have now filled in 1:1
Perhaps you meant 10.00:1????

Regards,

Belgo

Thanks belgoheli but this ratio is needed for the jlog, the real ratio is set in the jlog as per instructed by the jlog people with the kosmik.
I hope this has no bearing on the setup

Logging features such as gear ratio have nothing to do with the operation of the controller

Thanks for all the help guys from my logs, it look like I am drawing more than 100A on start up. This makes the Kosmik shut down.

This could be due to a cold solder or a bad motor. I will try both and see.

The Kontronik rep Wh1teAfr1can on the Kontronik forum has been a great and very helpful too.

It took me 6 times setting mine up and a reflash to get mine to work correctly.. But it has been flawless since.
