Default Use Align 70 amp or Castle ice 100 on 550E?

So should I continue using my stock Align ESC with an external pro BEC? Or should I use my castle ice 100? Will the 100 gain me more power?

Check your continous amp draw of the motor you have. The 70 amp is probably near motor standard draw of amps So if you start flying hard the amps required could exceed 70 amps. This could over time wear out esc which is known to burn out in many cases. With CC100 you have a good margin of safty and the motor can get more power out if required. So with CC100 you protect that expensive investment you have in your helli.

With the CC100 you get data logging too. I haven't maidened my 550 yet, but when I do, it'll have a CC100 on it.

Hmm then how come people like Alan have the stock ESC and are flying hard 3D with it?

You are the pilot you make the choice with what you are going to fly. The esc you have stock for 550 may work fine for you for a long time and that would be great your choice. There a fair number of crashed helli with failed esc that cost the pilot a lot to repair. The CC100 that you already have is concidered a better gamble of not failing and offeres some great features to help you. You got it so use it.

He runs a 100 flat th curve. the esc stays cooler and thus can handle more amps.

Even with an ICE 100, I would recommend an external BEC. I use the CC Bec Pro which can easily handle the load of the 3G, servos and receiver with spare capacity.

The bec in the align is better than the castle. The ice bec can't run the 550. I see your fbl, if you plan on using the v bar gov the align works great with it. The castle not so good. I use the align with the pro bec.

Yeah I will probably stay with the Align ESC. I actually though about using the Align 100 amp but I don't know if that will make much of a difference over the 70 amp. I am also using a cc pro BEC.

I err on the side of dynamic overhead and reliability.
I err on the side of having a 5Amp switching BEC.
I err on the side of cooler temperatures.
I am in error with my ICE100 and love it
