Piro tic tocs

SUCK!!!!

What the hell is so hard about turning the tail 90 mid-tic-toc???? I ask this purely as a rhetorical question, because my thumbs are numb at this point from trying these on the sim. I downloaded Bert's video on SmackTalkRC on this maneuver and I've watched it more times than porn...and still can't get the stupid thing.

Or, it could be that RealFlight just sucks and my thumbs are really faster than the physics engine and my laptop can't keep up with me, so it just crashes me to mess with me. Yeah, that must be it.

Oh, why, why, WHY, did I get sucked into this nightmarish hobby!!!! WHY!!!????

I assume you can hold solid control of the tail in a tail down tick tock. Here's how I learned: Do a tail down tick tock and turn the tail 45 degrees to the side, adjust your cyclic stick from straight up-down to diagonal, it will start to make sense pretty quick. Increase to 90 degrees and keep practicing going from tail down to either side a bunch of times, eventually you'll be able to go 180 from both sides, by which time you can complete a 360 tick tock.

Thanks, that sounds like what I'm trying to do, but I'm just putting the controller down for a while and picking up some Johny Walker... it doesn't care that I can't do them.... But I appreciate the tips. I will practice this some more. And yes, I can do continuous tail down and aileron tic tocs.

And nose down you have to know prior to doing piro, but nose down is super easy. Next up for me is piro tick tock with the rotor facing away. Lately I have not spent too much heli related quality time of any sort.

Yeah, I can do them nose down too...sorry, should have clarified. I can do tic tocs in all orientations, but they're not pretty with nose left. My problem seems to be the speed at which I'm stirring doesn't jive with the speed at which the heli is rotating, so I either under rotate or over rotate, so my cyclic doesn't match the heli's attitude... something like that. Its hard to explain! I'll keep working on it. Just glad to know its not a super easy maneuver...took me many, many months of practice to get good at piro flips!

You can do good piro flips, but not piro tick tocks? Sounds odd to me, I think piro flips are much more difficult than piro tick tocks.

I don't think piro tick tocks can be done cleanly by just stirring at a steady rate, you need to learn to feel where your tail is and adjust the stirring speed, so you can stop it at any orientation. I also think that doing piro tick tocks super slowly is easier that doing them fast, at least you can stay oriented.

Call it an obsession. The truth is that about 3 years ago, I saw a video on YouTube of some 3D guy doing some amazing stuff, but I got bored watching and I was about to click on something else when he brought the heli down low and just a few feet in front of him and then started doing piro flips just inches off the deck. I didn't know what they were called at the time, but when I saw that maneuver, I was hooked...and so began my road to helidom.

Fast forward 3 years, about 10grand, and hundreds of hours later, and that single focus finally came true a few months ago when I was able to sustain piro flips for an entire pack. Mind you, they were not all stationary, and I had to correct to keep it from tumbling out of my flight envelope, but I finally got the movement down. So you see, I've been so consumed by this one maneuver, that everything else that I've learned along the way has just been a path to get here!

Now that I'm comfortable with the piro flip, I want to add variations to it. Like I want to do the POGO too, and that looks simple enough, especially with FBL, since piroing in place with FBL is so much easier. First time I saw the piro tic toc, I thought it looked so friggin cool, so naturally, now that's the next obsession.... like I said, this is a hobby that sucks you in and turns you into an irrational addict, especially with the wallet!

I can do piro flips but still working on 4-point tic-tocs. It's going to be a fun year.

LOL... you know, my dad bought my son a small coax heli from some chinese manufacturer I've never heard of before so he could fly with me. Well, I take it out of the box, charge it for him, and then decide I should trim it out before he takes it in the air. I grab the transmitter and its Mode 1!!!! Talk about a royal mind manipulation... my left thumb is telling the right thumb what to do, and the right thumb is yelling "SCREW YOU! I'm doing my own thing!!!".

Needless to say, even hovering it was a chore. I hand the transmitter to my 10yr old and he lifts off...no worries. He just wanted to know which stick to move to make it go forward, back, left, right, up/down. After that, flew no prob. Trying to unlearn something as natural as Mode 2 is almost impossible...at least for this middle-aged old fart!

A youtube video = negative 10 grand and three years of time lost just for one maneuver. That's quite an obsession.

I like to take things slowly, but you're right about it being an obsession. I've been in RC since I was 10, that's 15 years now, but my first heli appeared on my desk around nine months ago and it's been a period of insanity, I have never been so obsessed with anything in my life.

Well, its my personality. Before that, I loved watching Norm (New Yankee Workshop) every Sunday morning. My dear wife got me a PoS craftsman tablesaw as a gift, and that ignited the woodworking phase of my life. I threw out everything that was in our 2-car garage and plunked down about 20grand in woodworking equipment. I did stick with it for almost 3 years, but haven't touched any woodworking machines now for 3 years...since helidom.

You personally need to learn 4pt tic tocs before piro tic ocs. Then, try CCW big bens. Then you should be able to lock in piro tic tocs.

Just start in a piro flip and turn it on it's side. It's easier to do when you are thinking about it like that. The stir is a little more oval like but you get the feel for them quick.

The big ben is where you stop at each hour of the clock right? That's the maneuver that Nick Maxwell did on his indoor video?
