Post Beginner Heli Terms Infographic

I’m new here and don’t know if this has been posted around here before but being a somewhat beginner myself I just found this Heli Terms infographic that was helpful.

Default sing23/ flying help

I want to thank you for your reply to my question about flying. I am going to take your advice and put my 450 on the shelve for a while. I am trying not to be so anxious, I will be using the sim as you suggested and flying my mcpx with tamed settings, I hope to report to you in about a month or so that I am flying.

Default Getting my mCPX

Ok, I am finally there and I am getting my first mCPX. So my questions to the Gurus that have been helping everyone is as follows:
1-Which original parts need to be substituted, to begin with, for better performance and not bling?
a- Swashplate
b- Head
c- Collar
d- KBDD tail rotors
2-Should I get RKH or MH.
3- What else do you guys recommend?

I've been flying mine straight stock and it is rock solid (for brushed motor and stock tail length)...up until recently when I think my 3/1 board is on the fritz. The only items I have had to replace after 12 or so crashes are multiple rotor linkages, and one tail boom. My landing gear cracked, but I just glued it back together and it has lasted another several crashes.

edit: I did remove the tail fin very early on and it really seemed to help performance in banked turns and flips.

Question Heli Setup vs Pilot Error

Is there a good way to test the heli setup to confirm it will fly properly and I am not just limited by newbie pilot error? This mCPX2 is my FIRST CP, which I got a couple of weeks ago.

OK, did some swash leveling. It was badly leaning to the right, out of the box. Leveled the swash by eye, but it looks good, and I was told that with the stabilization mechanism, by eye should work fine. I leveled by setting all 3 servo linkages to the same height. Then did the zero-pitch, mid-stick adjustment found in this thread using toothpicks. Again looks good.

Some things I'm experiencing.
  • Drifts left on the skids pretty easily (linoleum floor), which makes the 6 inch vertical takeoff and landing exercise pretty difficult.
  • Controls are touchy, but I expected that.
  • Based on the beginner transmitter setup in this thread, full throttle lift off is a few inches. The "more bite" Pitch Curve is better.
Did find a loose rubber grommet, but all the grommets are on the canopy. Can't find anywhere else to look for a missing one. Any ideas where to look for whwre that grommet may go?

Thanks

Default Thanks Ron - Love the Recommendations

I had my initial 11 flights Yesterday and today. Followed all the Set Up instructions but I had to use the "More Bite" Pitch curve. I was able to hover right of the bat. The Blade long tail is a bit twitchy to the left/head to the right. So far, I am very happy!!!!

Thanks Ron for being so helpful to newbies like me. You are awesome!!!!!!!

Deep breath...Follow Ron's set up...Deep breath...Go for it. It is intimidating to begin with. The tendency is the mCPX to Chicken Dance before taking off and you will over correct. Try to give a little right rudder to keep the tail in place in front of you. Once it take off, let her fly and do not over correct. Small input and let the stick center, then again and again. Do it over grass and you will very shortly have lots of fun.
