Default Voltage Step Down BLS251

Has anybody use a step down for their BLS251? If so, how did you configure your wiring? Was it neat or did it take up more space than planed?

Advice is don't bother with a step down, do not use it myself and reports of others using for years at 5.6 -6v and no ill effects. Also rational is that fully charged batteries used of old reached those voltages anyway.

BLS251 are rated for 6V, use them at 6V.

I am running 3 of these at 5.6-6V no issues at all. As stated, they can handle 6v. The speed specs are for 4.8v but it's cool.

I understand this but the specs say 4.8V. Wouldn't this cause a servo failure in the long run? I brought the step down but won't have any place to put it. So, I'm going without but don't want to crash the chopper. Why is it rated at 4.8V if it can do 6V?

It's to do with the 4.8V ratings referring to older nicad battery packs which, when fully charged were approx 6V rather than the nominal rated 4.8v ..

A bit like a car batt rated at 12v but is actually 13.8v

I think I can live with that.

Regardless of what people say. I would still use the step down diode on the BLS 251. I have been using BLS 251 on my TDR, T700 and Logo 600SE with step down.

I use the Align two way step down to step down from 6v. Cheap and works.

Personal choice of course, but another point of failure in the way when the servo will run happily on 5.6 - 6v is not one for me.

It's not "what people say" ... it's what the manufacturer specs

So, I need to reorder the the step down? I just don't see where I can put it on the TDR.

NO, the BLS251 is rated to 6V on that spec sheet from Robbe (Futaba Europe).

I had 700 flights with BLS251 at 6V from Jive - do not worry, it is working just fine.
