It's been a long time, started with this.

Ended with this.

I have terracotta pots in my garden that are stronger than Compass skids.
To be fair, I hit TH instead of the bailout toggle. Oh well, first time I've put her in and got away with a set of skids and a tail fin.
I might have ordered a larger pinion as well, just for fun of course...

And a big mention to redgumrc. An absolutely fantastic place to deal with.

While we're shutting down, I'm blowing out the carbon Atom 500 skids we had designed / manufactured.

Blowing out? Shutting down?
Sorry mate, not quite sure what you mean?
You have some CF skids that you're producing? Very interested if you are!

Yup. We are shutting RCHC down completely. Compass OEM parts are officially gone unless the deal goes South for them.

We have a bunch of CF skids we designed and had manufactured for the Atom 500. Tony Whiteside beat the snot out of them on his Atom 500 and they held up beautifully.

The skid set is HERE

The replacement parts are HERE

Fair enough, I can appreciate that.
Made by Hawk, I had a set of their 450 skids of the same design until I broke them.
I just went to order a set from you but couldn't justify the $22 shipping charge for $16.50 worth of parts, I've always had issues paying more for shipping than the actual part. Not your fault I live on the other side of the opposite hemisphere though

Flew my Atom 500 for the first time this year. Also flew my X3. What I can say is the Atom 500 is very underrated. It is so stable (compared to the X3 which is no slouch on its own), flies so smoothly but at the same time can be a rocket when you want it to.

I am using the Atom 5.5 canopy on the 500 for added visibility and also because it is easier to close the canopy on the field when using 3300 mah packs.

Not today, but a week or two ago, I upgraded the V-Bar in my Atom to 5.34 Pro (it was still on 5.1 Pro), changed receiver to a RG731BX with X-Bus, set it up in the 28X radio, cleaned up the wiring (which desperately needed it), and test hovered it in the back yard.

I should get out to test fly it and fine tune it with the new radio this week.

Ah Clem, I hear that. Today I flew my atom for the first time in a year or so. I haven't been very active in the hobby the past year due to some stuff that was going down. I'm slowly petering my way back in. Still debating on selling out of heli's for fast FPV quads. Either way, bird needed to get in the air and I needed to as well so I decided to go out and fly.

Had some issues last time I flew, put it in and broke half my rchelicanada skids, which really blows. Then took it back up and it was drifting to the right hard for no good reason, flew it today after having it apparently broken and shelved for a year and it seemed good as new so I have no idea what it was. Glad it flew though. I need to redo all of my servo wires, I have a few that have accidentally been cut and resoldered, taped, etc. I'll mess with that at some point soon I guess. My vbar is insanely out of date but I haven't ever been able to get it to update. So idk, might leave it. I have 5.1 pro I think. Can't remember, don't even really remember how to hook that thing up. Hope all of you are doing well.

Sam,

Glad to hear that you got your Atom back up and flying.

I had the devil of a time getting the V-Bar to update in my 6HV. I found out that you need a key from the Mikado website (which they email to you). It went very smoothly after that. There was no clear indication that the key was needed (I know that you needed something like it to upgrade from Express to Pro), but I stumbled across it.

The next two V-Bar upgrades were much smoother.

I did get mine test flown and tuned, so it is ready to go again. The Atom has been an extremely reliable machine (it will be seven years old at the end of this summer) and is still one of my favorites!
