Blade 400 went bezerk today, need help!
Been flying this thing for 2 years now on stock electronics, never one issue and over 200 flights I'm guessing. Today, on it's first flight of the day it starts up fine, hovers for maybe 30 seconds then starts to lose power. Barely touches down and I give a lot of collective to get it back in the air. At this point it takes off fairly briskly around 10-20 feet and noses forward like a frontward flip and crashes nose in.
I have no clue what happened, now I can't get it to even bind up to the transmitter. If the ESC decided to go in flight would I lose complete control? Any idea what happened? Thanks guys. |

It's possible the BEC in the speed controller went out. Do you have any power to the receiver at all?

Well, was just messing around with it and everything bound up fine now. It's very weird sometimes how my DX6i won't bind. Like it's got a mind of it's own.
Come to find out the elevator servo in front absolutely doesn't work at all. It's not stripped, just zero movement or power. I suspect now it simply quit in flight and this is what caused it to nose over. Can't say I haven't been warned about these stock servos, on the other hand they have lasted two years. |

I agree - how does one get 2 years out of a stock Blade 400 servo?

Maybe limit yourself to ten flights per year?

True that some fail in flight but of those that do how many were after multiple hard crashes or after gear replacements when tiny chips may have been left in the case?

Yep, I've had 3 very minor crashes in 2 years and over 200 flights. This was the first set of blades I've actually broken. Stock electronics had been working fine until yesterday.

They had a good run! Get some better servos and get that baby back in the air.

I only got 2 days out of mine before it stopped working just as I lifted off.

I had hundreds of flights on mine, and zero crashes with all stock gear. No problems with them I just hung them up because I felt that they were not worth upgrading so I got a beam

You might also check the motor bearings. Mine lasted about 150 flights before they went out, and that may have been the cause for the drop in power. Or, it could have just been the servo taking a huge chunk of amps as it died in flight causing the drop.

Over a year on my stock servos without problems. I did have to replace the gears in one after a tip over and swap out the case on another due to a broken mounting tab. I did upgrade to Hitecs though which are as good as everyone says.
