How much play in your torque tube gears?

I am seeing quite a bit if play in my system. I don't think it's excessive backlash either. I think there is a good bit of play in the drive lugs engagement to their mating sockets in each end. Is this common?

I found that on mine I had to keep the TT ends pretty tight or they would slip a little and it would cause the holes to enlarge over time. I keep my backlash pretty loose and it doesn't seem to affect performance.

What is to tighten on the TT ends?

My TT ends are bolted to the tube. If those bolts arent tight then the TT ends will slip causing additional play. Over time that play will cause the holes in the tube to stretch making the play worse. I had to replace a TT once because of this. You have to remove the TT from the boom to get to the bolts.

I should check mine though. One observation I've had with the X50 compared to other birds I've owned is that it does need some maintenance attention to the fasteners. Some of mine seem to need retightening more frequently.

I think while my TT is out, I will want to shim the rear TT bevel gear as well. Anyone know what inside and outside diameter shim would be needed? TT does show a shim in the manual, but my rear TT bevel gear can move in and out a bit, which adds play. I will need a shim of around .2mm or so.

Hey Rob,
My rear TT bevel gear has ~ 0.2 mm (0.25 mm max) of play. I was looking at trying to reduce this as well as it will clear up quite a bit of backlash.

I'm considering this because pitch pumps during my maiden flight resulted in huge tail shudders that would violently shake the entire heli. Adjusting gyro gain did not help. Ran without any other vibs for the short time I had it up.

FYI: Shim dimensions would be 18mm OD, 15mm ID, xx thickness The 15mm dim could go a little smaller.

First I will reassemble and see how changing out the main blades from 623 to 600 and going back to the stock tail blades works out. My current tail blades are 95mm carbon fiber and maybe too stiff?

I'm running a Ys56 which hauls ass, and have the opportunity to pick up a ys60 on clearance. I have acquired a stack of parts to keep mine flying for a good while too.
