Default Has this Hobby always moved this fast?

So i have been flying for almost 2 years now and it just seems to me the technology just keeps improving faster and faster, seems every time i log online there is some new flybarless, or Heli, or what have you. My question what was the tipping point that caused this or has it been growing like this since the 70's?

The tipping point seems to be about 5-6 years ago, around the time I got started.

I wasn't flying helis in the 80's or 90's, they were too pricey for me back then and I stuck to planes. But watching from the sidelines it looked like technology progress was measured in years instead of months.

Things seemed to start moving a lot faster when electrics started to get popular, and the cost of entry dropped dramatically. Used to be you started off with a 30 size nitro that required a lot of $$$, at least in comparison to a 450 size machine.

The cost of technology has come down a lot too. Lots more people flying helis now vs. 10 or 20 years ago so the bigger market allows for more companies and more innovation.

I think it was the adoption of lithium battery technology that really gave our hobby a boost. If there were only nitro or gas models I probably would not be flying.

yep, I agree. Lipo batteries and brushless motors really help progressed the hobby.
