Default This is a Mental Game

So my King did a nose dive Sunday and made it out with only broken main blades, and bent feathering shaft. I broke it down to double check things and had it running that night. I have been tweaking hear and there to get it right. Each time I took it out, I had the training gear on doing hover and forward flight. I haven’t been in the hobby long and hadn’t felt comfortable without the training gear until tonight. I was going back and forth from the workbench to outside and forgot to put on the training gear. It was dark out and I didn’t catch it until I was in the air When I did notice it I yelled out “Fudgen Sugar Honey Ice Tea”. Next thing I know, I’m flying around with no training gear. It was so much fun I landed several times just to take off again. That is when I realized that learning to fly is such a mental game.

You know it... Its the same with orientation to... if ur having troubles, not you water, with orientation just hang in there and keep flying... Because soon enough its like someone flips a switch and bam!!! it all comes together... So people don't have this transition but others like me struggle with it and then it is like a switch being thrown... Something in the brain triggers an all of a sudden its like, why was I having so much trouble??? LOL

Nice going tho WV... well done

Default Yea!

Hi WaterViper, I read a similar thread on another site about three weeks ago and thought, MMMmmm...... I'll have a go without the training gear on and all of a sudden, I Could Hover. Well sort of, but I made that leap from quickly smashing it up to, well, err having longer gaps between my techincal errors. Three weeks from then, I can now go and hover off a full pack with touching down. Cracking stuff. All the best, Izzy

Some days when I practice orientation on the sim, I can go back and forth and side to side with no probs. And then other days, I barley remember to use rudder.
