After purchasing zeal 17-5.8 blades for my heavy lift X8 uav I was pleased with the way it flew. After 1 hour of air time the UAV had a big crash. Just fell out of the sky. Not knowing to sure why I rebuilt and tried again. Second time it did the exact same thing we conducted a very thorough investigation. It was discovered that the zeal blade had come apart while airborne. These blades are under engineered and not up to the task.
The places that I fly UAVs for commercial use have very high risk and to have a product break in such a manner could have easily caused a death. I was lucky I was practising safe flying and didn't hurt anyone.
Be warned zeal blades have issues and zeal won't respond at all.

This was known for a while with heli blades as well. Tail blades broke at their root and ejected, main blades delaminated, resulting in catastrophic failure. Seen at least 5 cases of failed tails and over 10 failed mains.

It's considered an achievement on here if your Zeals don't fail.

I would suggest this is a case where the user F**ked up.

He used hobby grade blades on a "heavy lift X8 uav".
WTF?

There are dozens of NTSB reports where guys use hobby grade hardware on Ultralights and small home-built airplanes, and they die in the resulting crash.

If you want to fly a "heavy lift X8 uav", then use the manufacture's certificated and tested main rotor blades.

This is a large quad, nothing more. You make it sound like he is using it for a passenger type vehicle.

I don't know. This seems like a big quad to me.
17" blades take a lot of stress.
