Rescue and Pushglow Pro
In the process of setting up a new Brain2 HD on an N5C with a Pushglow Pro. I was able to get both rescue and the Pushglow to work off of Aux but want to make sure the config is safe.
Here is my setup: -Rescue is setup on a momentary switch on a DX8 (on aux3) -Pushglow connected to CH2 on the Brain -Both rescue and Pushglow is activated with momentary switch -Added a mix KNB > AX3 only on hold to allow continuous activation with the knob -To activate the glow to start, I turn the knob while on throttle hold. So everything works. However, rescue is activated when igniting the glow plug and the glow plug is activated when rescue is used. I can't think of any ill effects.. Not ideal to have both activated, but don't see any harm. Thoughts? I know I could get a Y on my throttle but prefer to have control through a switch. |

The first thing that I can see happening is voltage sag. You might want to log and check to make sure, but rescue is pretty demanding on power and by adding more load to ignite your glow plug could cause voltage sag higher than norm. This could possibly cause failsafe due to low voltage depending on what TX/RX system and power system you're using.

If you are worried about the igniter draining the flight battery by using Rescue too often, you could use a small 2S 450mAh battery dedicated to the igniter.
http://www.buddyrc.com/glacier-20c-450mah-2s-130x.html ($5) Or, you could decide not to use the SwitchGlo Pro's remote glowplug lighting feature (I think you have the SwitchGlo Pro). Personally, I use the PushGlo (which is the simpler version) to start the engine and that's all. The PushGlo does not have the feature to light the glowplug remotely. I typically do not have a problem with flameout during autorotation practice if the engine idle is tuned and the glowplug is in good shape. |

Thanks for the input! I don't use rescue often and not worried about draining the battery. Voltage sag is something I didn't consider. I am running a 2s lipo connected directly to the HD Brain with HV servos and dsmx sats, so I should have plenty of headroom. I will log and monitor for voltage drop.
On my NX4, I did experience consistent failsafes after switching to a regulator at 5v with direct dsmx sats. I went back to a BEC at 6v (same rx lipo) and no more failsafes. Either the extra volt or capacitor on the BEC made the difference. Either way, I'm happy not having to perform unplanned autos on every flight! |
