Can you use a Scorpion HK4025-1100KV in a 550?
Okay so I had a REAL bad crash today, broke just about everything. Both side frames are destroyed. SO.. I have a Scorpion HK 4025-1100 sitting around. It looks a little big but I think I can cut the side frames to fit it. Has anyone used this motor?? Thanks for the Advice! Ohh, Yeah, it has a smaller shaft. I would need to get a new pinion for it. Suggestions on how many teeth?

Phil, mine are running 4025-1100s if you want to check the fit out.
You just have to cut the little inverted "T" shape pieces out of the frame sides and it will fit fine. The 4025-1100 can have a 5mm or 6mm shaft. Either way you will probably need a new pinion since the Align one won't allow the shaft to pass all the way through. You could also swap out to a 6mm shaft. If you want to run fixed endpoints, 16t is fine running at/near 100% throttle. I think you tached mine around 2350rpm and that was around 90% throttle. 17t is good for insane headspeed on fixed endpoints. If you want to go governed, then 18t is good. I have a couple of 18t and 20t pinions for 6mm shaft sitting on my desk.

Hello Chris! Mine has a 5mm shaft and I ordered a Revco Hard one, 0.7 16 tooth pinion. I could only find one! Ready Heli is out. I saw that I couldjust cut out the inverted T. SO when I get my side frames, i will do a little surgery. Thanks!!

It seems like they're always out of the popular sizes... I had to wait a few weeks and jump on it as soon as they came in. Did you go with the Fusuno G10s? I believe they omit that little piece so that the Scorpion will fit without modification. Would like to see them if you did, I may go with them the next time the need arises. Would be interested in seeing what the weight difference is also. If their frames work out well, $28 for G10 or even $80 for CF would be a lot better than $115 or whatever silliness Align wants.
I do have a stock frame side left over from the crash, so naturally I expect to break both sides next time.
