Default DX9 cyclic spring tension

I have a new DX9 and I'm having an issue adjusting the Cyclic spring tensions.
As soon as I back off the tension for both elevator and Aileron (and not a lot) the stick does not center properly. It kind of has about a millimeter or so of play in both directions. This play does show up in the monitor with about +- 5 in both directions. I never experienced this before and I've had a DX6i, DX7 and DX8 and was able to adjust the sticks perfectly on all of them.
I hope I'm explaining this correctly. Any thoughts?

If you loosen the tension too much they can sometimes have trouble centering. Your trying to match the feel of another Tx and the springs themselves may be a tad stronger.

Thanks for the reply aerocal!
I definitely get what you are saying when the sticks are too loose but I am one of those guys who likes what I would call a "Medium" tension. So I am not loosing them too much. Its really weird how the stick has no tension for about that millimeter in both directions then has tension.
Looks like I have to open her up!

Default dont have to open it up

I went thru the same thing about an hour ago with a new dx-9. You can do any adjustment needed from the back holes. I had exactly what you described...play in the cyclic center. I had the tension adjustments too loose. Play around with it ....get it feeling just right.

FYI I had mine apart to make the Teflon throttle mod. Its SOOOO smooth now

Yeah just be careful and remove the back. Try not to touch any of the connections on the board and work on a grounded bench and keep yourself grounded to avoid static. If you accidentally touch a sensitive path/component you dont want to zap it with a carpet spark.

Its good to have a visual of what the screws and the little mechanisms in the gimbals are doing the first time you adjust stuff.

We'll I took the back off and spent about an hour and a half trying to adjust the stick tension and have come to the conclusion that it is not possible to loosen the sticks without getting the play in the center. After spending the time studying the gimbals it appears the springs are too tight. Again I do not like the sticks loose but a little looser than stock. I have no idea how others are dealing with this considering how some people like loose sticks.
