How do your batteries fit?

I recently purchased a used G10 and it looks like the underside of the frame that sits above the battery bay was notched out with a belt sander or something so that the battery could be pushed farther back. With 5000 mah 6s batteries they seem to fit perfect where the front of the battery doesn't stick out of the frame much.

I also recently picked up a used carbon heli (the one I'm building into an FBL machine) and I noticed that I can not stick the batteries in as far because the frame isn't notched out like the G10 that I have. Are you guys modifying your frames like the G10 that I have or are your batteries sticking out of the front of your frame? Any CG issues?

I had the same question because I can't remember how I had mine on my old 550 before it went nuts and ate itself. I think I will wait til I get this one ready to roll again and see where my Turnigy packs balance out. There may be no need to mod the frames at all...

I watched Pete's video on how he does his batteries and copied what he is doing. I did not need to cut anything off the underside of the upper frames to get my batteries in. I use the Turnigy 30C 5000mah batteries and hold them in with 2 straps at the provided locations in the bottom plate. The wires stick up at the front of the battery and I take the power lead down the right side of the bottom frame to the ESC connector, there is 2" of battery sticking out of the front of the bottom plate to get COG correct.

Yep.. lots sticks out. I marked my packs with a sharpies so I know how far they go in. I don't know how you got yours in though Paul.. mine are the Turnigy 6s5000mah 30-40C too. No way would they ever fit.. I had to remove a lot of material as you can see in the video.

With regards to the packs, I think that I am going to get some Voltz batts and they are a bit longer than turnigy but not as fat. Was it the thickness of the pack which gives you a problem with the fit?

yep length is fine. Skinnier is good

With the Turnigys I had to shim up the front of the battery with some balsa. This keeps the tail end of the battery from hitting the bottom of the frames.

Well I'm glad to see that all of your lipos are sticking out a little from the frame. I'd hate to carve away that much of the frame. Right now my ESC and BEC are wired so the battery connector goes into the frame first and connects in the center of the frame. It was like this when I bought it and I guess it would be nice to connect / disconnect after the canopy is on. But I don't think this is the norm so maybe I'll rewire it. Hmmm...
