Default Outstanding deal on Novak Silver solder

Very surprised to find this so cheap on Amazon.com. High quality Novak Silver solder 100gr. for under $19.00 delivered. Most places sell this for around $38.00 excluding shipping and here it's $14.99 + 3.74 shipping.

That solder is rosin core which should be cleaned after making the connection. Also they do not give the diameter which might be a little large for small work.

Here's a better deal: 500g for $39 ( 33 +6 shipping) :

(Scroll down to the lead-free part number SOLDER_LFREE_0MM5)
This solder has a "no-clean" flux which requires no removal, too.

No, this is not for electronics. For that you normally want to use a lead-tin solder mix (about 60-40 mix).

Silver solder is often used to mechanically bind two objects together. It is stronger than the normal electronics lead-tin mix

Silver solder is most commonly used in RC for bullet to motor winding connections.

Just about all lead-free solder has silver in it. There isn't much info in the ad, but it does mention "high conductivity" and "low resistance" (which are one in the same) so I assume this solder is for electronics work.

Most of the world is going to lead-free solder and Europe has mandated it. Any consumer electronics products that are sold in Europe must use lead-free solder. This means pretty much everything produced today doesn't use tin-lead solder, though there are exceptions for some non-consumer devices.

You wouldn't want to use a lead-tin solder if you are repairing a device that was assembled with lead-free solder since the integrity of the joint will be compromised. Also, the lead will eventually wind up in a landfill as pollution.

Unfortunately, electronics soldering with lead-free solder requires better, stronger soldering equipment to handle the higher melting temperatures, so your old soldering iron might not work well with lead-free solder.

Novak is one of the major manufacturers of r/c car ESC's and motors. This solder is targeted for the r/c car market. It works just as well in r/c heli applications.

I'm not a fan of lead-free solders, but if you're looking for a lead-free specifically for r/c hobby work, this is a very good deal.
