Thanks. We use Solidworks 2010 The idea is to build a custom bell222 fiber glass fuselage at work. Thats why i modeled the whole t-rex to make sure that the fuselage will fitt.

Wow....
I commend you on your work. That is really incredible. I have Solid works, Rhino. Mastercam and enroute... I wish I had the time to learn them all. Pick one and learn everything there is to know.. i guess.... right now that's Enroute and enroute is a cheesy signmakers program.... it stills generates good gcode though. so....
How much seat time do you have with SW2010? or SW in general? How long before a guy could get proficient enough to do something on the scale that you have shared with the freaks? I'd love to learn to use this... The sky really would be the limit then! -or the bottom of the Marianas trench... Im waiting on a 600esp to arrive at the local hobbystore in about two weeks. I seriously want to record all of the parts and peices before I construct "her". Since I have most of the tools to recreate a lot of the parts It would be a lot of fun to be able to do so should the need arise... Not that I'd save any money or time by making my own parts.... Its about the hobby.. Knowhatimsayin? R. |

I'm a Heli 'ultra-newbie' myself, but have been around RC for a while. I used Rhino for 5-ish years (self taught but pretty proficient). I just made the jump to SW recently. Its taken me a bit to get up to speed because (a) its after-hours 'fun' (b) mostly because SW is very powerful by comparrison, so it commands some learning effort. But I'm hooked. Most people have a budget issue & choose Rhino over SW primarily for that reason. But if you already have both, go for SW. Its just so much better with mechanical assemblies (which seems to be an integral demand of heli cad modelling). Plus its a parametric modeler, Rhino isn't. Rhino is easier to learn & has some real nice features when it comes to swervy curvy nurbs based 3d surfacing. But you can find that capability in SW too, the methods & tools vary. SW is very well supported with learning resources, how-to training, dvd's etc. Rhino... not as much. I get the impression you have access to cnc? Some of my Rhino work has made it to RC plugs & molds so I have some/limited outsourced exposure there. From what I can tell thus far, SW would offer as many (or more) file formats for cam languages for that capability. I've never used MC so cant compare. Hope this helps. |

Awesome effort! Just acquired a T-Rex 600CF and am enjoying it greatly. I use Rhino, and more recently, Autodesk Inventor, for my CAD efforts so would love a copy of the file if you have it still available.
Please send to u2fletch@gmail.com Thanks! Jeff |
