Do yourself a favor. Get a western robotics super mini bec G2. You will not regret it.

Yes you will need a BEC! I have not had any issues with my CC BEC pro's, and have heard nothing but great things about Western Robotics BEC's!

+1 to the Super Mini G2. I went from the built-in BEC on a CC Phoenix Edge that I could brown out easily to the G2 and couldn't make it burp ever.

+1. The mini G2 is also small and light. Mine with an Optipower Ultraguard weighs less than a receiver lipo. For me, the ease of a BEC, coupled with the additional security of a backup battery, weighing less than a receiver battery, made it a no-brainier.
