Default Synergy E7 or Compass 7HV

Looking at getting one or the other. Who has (or has flown) both and which is better?

I too was looking at both, ive decided to go for the 7hv

here are my thoughts

Synergy E7 is considerably more expensive to buy and crash, the belt has also been proven to snap in flight which is why they are bringing out a torque tube. this alone is enough to scare me flying it.
My 6hv has been faultless with zero maintenance, the 7hv is the big brother so the design is proven plus there is no need to check the belt tension as its auto tensioning. Parts are relatively cheap and it looks great.

im just waiting for the new 510kv motor to start shipping with kits and I will hit the button.

I have a 7HV(7200BX) and I've flown an E7(VBAR) several times. The E7 seems slightly lighter, other than that they both feel fine to me. I'm happy with my 7HV, I think I'd be just as happy with the E7, but I do like the looks of the 7HV better (which is the reason why I chose it over a 700E - which IMHO, is a fine heli as well)

I have flown both, but I own the E7. The E7 is hands down my favorite heli. I like how light it is, 10.2 pounds ready to fly. My X7 is over 12 pounds with the same packs.

The E7 and 7HV both that their pluses and minuses. I don't like the two piece frames on the 7HV and i don't like the belt on the E7. Not because of the way it flies, I just suck at belts lol. I was intrigued by the auto tension system on the 7HV.

Either way, they are both great heli's, you can't go wrong with either.

Aw man, that is what got me into this whole heli world. In the end that little cheapie airhog cost me over 10 thousand dollars. You could almost fly one inside either of these two helis canopies.

I'd like to throw the Gaui X7 into the mix. How does it compare to the Compass or Synergy?

I have the x7 and an e7. X7 is a great heli but a but heavier than either the e7 or 7hv. Crashes well though!

What is best for one guy does not mean it's the best for the other. I've flown many helis in my life and for the time being nothing surpasses my Synergy. The best way to know what is best for you is the try them out.
One thing I could tell you is Synergy is the best designed of the three and with the Synergy forum will be the easiest to get help for.

I owned a Compass 6HV for a year. It was a nice heli but it had a few minor engineering oversights. The anti-rotation guide had to be dremeled to get a proper pitch range. The nearly all plastic tail and tail control with the plastic and pins main hinge was less than stellar. However, it flew very nicely other than a tendency to wag the tail excessively in a breeze. The stock main blades were great. However, they had been out of stock at the only USA dealer for several months when I finally decided to sell it to a friend who wanted it for parts. The problem ridden early launch of the 7HV and the fact that I just couldn't get comfortable with the single dealer supplier turned me off of Compass.

The engineering and finish of my E7 is head and shoulders better than the Compass product. It also flies great. Very precise and quick. Some folks have had belt issues. That's been the only complaint by a few guys that I know of since the product launch. You need to be on top of belt tension or just buy the Mikado 600SE Kevlar belt. It is a perfect fit and admittedly a better choice over the stock belt for the long narrow boom of the E7. However, I'm going to shuck the belt in a week or two with the new torque tube kit....

Compass is now sold through Nankin to Hobby Hut, Experience, and a few others in the US, just to dispel the poor parts support "issue".

When I bought the 6HV there were three US dealers. Nankin, Amain and Esprit. Both Amain and Esprit gave up the Compass line during my year of 6HV ownership. Not that history is always important but Compass had issues with distributors and dealers in the past too. I do hope they have it all sorted out now.

A Main actually came back as a non-distributor dealer.

By contrast, Mikado only has a single US dealer (ReadyHeli) and you don't hear many people complain about it being a single source.

Good for you guys and Amain. However, when I had my 6HV and was making the decision to stay with or leave Compass there was only one dealer toward the end of my ownership. I wouldn't consider Mikado or Goblin for that same reason. I know I can't be the only one who considers multi-dealer support important.

Default Belt

E7 is the better heli . The belt does suck but the Kevlar belt off the Mikado 600 SE is a perfect fit and cures all belt related problems.. IE no more ringing on hard collective, better autos and no breakage of belt. I can not think of a single better upgrade to the E7 .

I think a lot depends on what LHS support people have. If they're in the boonies, everything has to come mail order, so as long as a single source can provide the parts they need, everything is copacetic. If they're in a large metro area, chances are there will be a shop that at least stocks Align. When I flew Align, it was nice being able to crash Saturday morning, get parts Saturday afternoon, and then be back in the air on Sunday. But, I don't regret moving on to other brands in the least. Unfortunately, few LHSs are willing to risk stocking anything but mainline brands.

Some other minor differences.

Gears: E6/E7 uses thick helical gears, very smooth, quiet and very strong. 7hv has straight cut gears, and there have been a few reports of broken teeth.

Canopy: I don't really like the shape of the 7hv canopy, but much prefer its paint scheme to the pearl white of the E6/E7.

Tail: Plastic on the 7HV, and metal on the E6/E7.

Battery Tray: Removable on the 7hv, not on the E6/E7. But that does add a little weight to the 7HV.

Head: Compass still has the first and best integrated swash driver head. Synergy uses a conventional swash driver and traditional FBL style head. Both are very high quality.

I've had a Compass 600e for several years now and it was a hard decision for me to switch brands. I have loved my Compass and found the Compass subforum to be one of the best here on HF. Many, many years of experience represented and shared freely by its regular members.

So far the parts quality of the Synergy seems a tad better than the Compass. But that is in no way a complaint about Compass. I've never worn out any parts on my Compass, nor had issues getting spares even during the height of the distributor issues. As soon as the TT arrives for the Synergy, I'll find out how the E7 flys.

Cannot agree with either of these comments at all. Firstly the Compass head is being copied by the latest and greatest 700's, not the Synergy's, which says it all regarding the head. Secondly the Synergy belt has issues and a fix is being developed or you can upgrade yourself, no such issues with the 7HV, you fly what's in the box.

Secondly Compass has great support in the forum which Synergy may equal but could not surpass. If you ask a question no one has an answer for, the actual designer of the heli will step in and comment on the compass forum.
