Default Step n up to NITRO ?

These 450's are just to small (bad eyes)& short run times(about the time i get the shakes out the batt. dead.).I dont have much $$$ and was looking at the HK JS TZ V2 .50. Are they worth the time and effort? Not looking for 3D yet, just something bigger with longer run times to keep learning on.Thanks

You might have some luck finding a used but nice Raptor 50 in the HF Classified section. Some guys have reported getting 10+ minutes per tank running lower head speed.

A used Raptor would be a good choice I think. I hear they're pretty reliable and easy to work on.

You cant go wrong with a Thundertiger.

Good design, and good parts support. I'd go flybarless if I was you.

Take a look at this one...

The JST models Frenzy is a pretty good machine also. A good friend and flying buddy of mine has one. I belive it is goin on yr 3 and it has been a pretty solid machine fo him.

The Raptors are also good machines but dont be gunshy of the Frenzy.

I don't speak from experience, but from what I've heard, avoid HK for their models - the quality isn't there, and you don't want to cheap out on a model that big with those sorts of vibes.

+1 on the TT suggestion. I have a Trex, but a lot of folks cut their teeth on a Raptor.

I get enough flight time out of a tank on my 600 that I am always surprised when I bring it down, thinking it's empty, and there's still half a tank left. Almost too long! Also, my 600 flies soooo much nicer than my 450, hovers easy, so smooth to fly, tracks great, ignores the wind. Bigger is better when it comes to stability. I've heard to 700s improve on that even more.

A warning about cost: Regardless of what you spend on the bird, it's going to cost more when you crash. An average crash with my 450 is around $30. That won't even buy a set of cheap CF blades for my 600.

I agree with the above, get something used, raptor or t-600. Hopefully with as much electronics as possible, and a good engine. When you total it, you could always get a kit of some kind, and you´ve eased into a new big bird

don't go that big with a HK kit..
a 450 or maybe 500 max, just no QC so big risk with your time and money invested.
+1 for the used raptor, lots of them around

All I've read about that bird is that it's a great machine for the money.

Before I got the JZ I'd look at used Raptor 50SE or T-rex 600 N. The main reason is parts availability and price. The Raptor isn't as "bling bling" as the trex but it will fly just as well and is more durable. Also with either bird there are numerous people that have had them and can help with any issue that comes up.

Look for a t-rex 600 in the classifieds. Unfortunately for us 600 owners people are nearly giving them away. I myself may be looking to sell a flybarless one in a couple weeks. It's a great helicopter and parts are readily available.

Here's one with a 7CAP tx, little vague on the component details, also saw some 600Ns and Rapter 90/50s all over the place.

Default WARNING

Be very careful buying used birds. I've bought two large birds used and it has been hit or miss. The 700e I bought from a member here looked like a new bird and it is in great shape. He sold it for a great price and I couldn't do better if I was to buy it new. It was just a great deal all around.

The 600n I bought off of RR was in awful shape. The money that I have invested in this bird I could have bought a new one. I've bought a new motor (YS56) and pipe (outrage 56), servo's (610's) and I switch to FBL with a Beastx . Every bearing on this bird was bad and it had a cracked frame. The fuel tank had been repaired and the fuel lines needed changing. The seller gave me enough parts to almost put together another so-so bird and he offer to go in half on a new frame, but I just took care of it myself just to be done with it. If I didn't do a complete breakdown I wouldn't have known how bad this bird was, but this is what you can expect when you buy used.

I bought a 450pro clone on RR that was in crappy shape, but the seller told me it was a beater heli from the start. So it's being reborn with all align electronics and parts. It's also getting a scorpion motor and CC esc. This didn't cost me a lot because the 450 is a small bird, but the 600 was a different story.

Just be careful.

A little FYI guys....The TZ Frenzy IS NOT an HK model.

They sell it but have nothing to do with manufacturing it.

HK models are HK450 HK250 HK600 HK HK HK .....see a trend? lol....

I've had two Frenzies and they're awesome machines.

Just ask the resident NOBAR guru about his Frenzy
