Outrage 550 Setups

JR DS821 on cyclics modded for longer screw to support shaft(I have a ton of these servos I need to use up. Either that or I do have 3 Airtronics metal gear digital servos.
JR G7703d and 8900g gyro setup
AR7000
unsure about esc at this point.
unsure about blades right now.
Actually I just happened into this sub forum today and got excited enough to consider buying one to build this winter

How is the Neu in terms of efficiency? What would flight times look like doing light to moderate 3D?

your going to get 7 to 7 1/2 minutes on a 6s 6000 mah pack, and about 6 minutes on 5000 mah pack.

That's awesome... really excellent. I'm not very, very seriously looking at this as my next heli. It's nice to know I can go all the way to a .30 size heli without having to go to Nitro.

That Neu motor is a pricey bugger. Is it really $80+ better than the Scorpion 3026 v2?

As my "flying" is really more like "waiting for the crash" I think I'll save that $80 for the inevitable.

One question-I notice most people are considering going with 560 mains. Any particular reason?

That is exactly why I'm so interested in using 10S A123 in this bird! Big lipo prices still give me hives.

The Scorpion motor you listed above is simply to small for this size heli. You will need HK-4020 series

The Jazz 80 has a high potential of running hot in this size heli. A lot of guys using it on the Logo 500 have overheating/thermaling issues even with the heat-sink mod. If you live up North (Canada for example) then it's not as bad.

Better disk loading for this size heli. 550mm blades are good too from reports.

Yes the 6s 5000mah pack is a great compromise between cost, weight & run time. I found a Desire Power 6s 5000 for on sale for $200, they sold out FAST! I'm also going to buy an Outrage 6s 5000 too. $279 is very reasonable.

The packs for my Logo 600 (I used to own) were $400-$530 each! I don't want to go down that road again.

I don't expect I'll have any trouble with the Jazz as I used it in my T600 without issue. (Flying in mostly 90+ degree weather) The soft start on that thing is amazing.
I am curious as to why the 3026 is too small. Do you mean physically? Spec's-wise the 4020's got nothin' on it, other than a larger stator diameter.
(Not trying to be a smart ass, just genuinely curious. It's only a $25 difference after all)
Pack-wise I'm set. While the T600 is waiting to be converted to an 8s setup my TP5000's are collecting dust.
Btw, I know nobody here like's TP's, but if you're a member at Grand you can usually pick them up for $250. Just so's ya know.

It's still shocking compared to the $130 I have in my 10S A123 pack. I know A123 doesn't have the energy density of lipo, but honestly for the way I fly I've been totally happy with the performance-to-weight ratio. The only reason I can't just drop my Swift power system into the Outrage is my packs are in a "brick" configuration, and it looks like I'd have to reconfigure them as "shotgun" to fit in the frame. Bah.

Since I know we're flying in similar environments, I have to comment...

On my T600, no issues with the Jazz 80. On my L500, I started having thermals this year. I tried the heat sink mod to no avail. Thus, I'm working on switching to a Jive on the L500.

I think there's more too it than "what bird", however, and it has a lot more to do with motor, load, gear ratio, and what %age you end up with the Jazz at than anything else. I never found a sweet spot on the L500 that didn't overheat, but that was at least partially due to the inability to get a gearing that "worked" for it.

Of course, the weather is now heading towards frigid...

Which Jive would be appropriate for the Outrage? The Jive prices aren't much higher than the Jazz prices when you consider the fact that the Jive already includes a 6V switching BEC.
