Default Boom Grounding

So first off I really like the new ultimate heli and am about 95% sure it will be my next purchase. But I was watching vids on youtube and came across one where a guy shows how to ground the boom. My question is does the heli have a problem with static enough that you should or have to ground the boom?

most all "boom and pod" heli's have static that is generated when using a belt.

it's common practice to ground out the boom.

certain rx's and fbl units are vulnerable to static as well so this is just a precautionary measure.

Its a better safe than sorry thing, 10 minutes work tops, drill, and screw. I was flying my 7hv and 6hv ungrounded in Malaysia without any problem, but that was a year round warm and very humid place. I don't view it as a problem.

in case you didnt know Vbar sensors are vulnerable to static hits.

because your old raptor and gaui 425 didnt have a problem doesnt mean they didnt create a charge.

I've had to other heli's go in due to static hits on a full size vBar. Just ground it. Things were find for 3 months in one case until it plowed into the ground. vBar logs revealed static as the root cause.

On the 6hvu, I ran a 2" wire from the boom to the frame. It took 5 minutes.

But I agree it should be included in the kit and called out in the manual. You can't assume people are knowledgeable about this and it's a big deal. Vendors seem to be in denial about it. It took Mikado 5 years to release something in the kit. I really don't understand why this issue continues to be neglected by designers.

Some models purposefully impregnate plastic with conductive material to avoid it. Like the protos.

My buddies Raptor suffered from static hit's constantly with his alloy case JR gyro until we grounded it. After that tail never freaked out again.

It seems to depend greatly on climate, cold and dry are pretty sure fire way to get a hit.

"in case you didnt know Vbar sensors are vulnerable to static hits."

I could not agree more!

My 6HV never suffered from static until I installed the V-Bar (it was flybarred before that).

It usually takes me longer to get the tools out than it does to ground the boom on a machine.

It is a short process that can save a great deal of time, money, and aggravation.
