Heliartist Hughes 500D 500 size, be aware....
Hi all. Ive recently purchased from flying hobby the Police version of the hughes MD500D for my Trex 500 esp. The kit didnt came with the tinted windows nor the wood blocks to do installation. One of the vertical fins was broken. Ive called both vendor and heliartist and nobody give a solution. When started installation of the frame inside the fuse, discovered that the base to install the frame was tilt glued. Bad fuse construction error. When assembling the landing gear A LOT OF FITTING is necessary, because of the poor quality of the parts involved. 1/4" longer bolts will be needed to install vertical fin. Original trex bolts became short. The tail pushrod MUST be modified, because the pushrod guides does not fit inside the fuse tail. A lot of truoble for a kit that says "easy installation". Dissapointed with Heliartist quality AND customer service.

Go with Align and buy from a good hobby store that will take care of you. When I bought the MD500 by align, the tail fin was broken. The hobby store exchanged it for me no questions asked. They were great!
I know how it feels when you waited for so long to get your kit and then to find out a part is broken or missing. |

I have emailed HeliArtist twice before about missing and / or broken parts and they gladly sent them to me free of charge.
As for your issues with the tail pushrod , landing gear and vert fin bolts , welcome to scale building that is just part of it. I have built over 10 scale helis and non of them came with very clear and thorough instructions , this again is part of the building process. |

Just check out what you need to do when you build an $800 Vario.... Yup...! That's the way it is with scale my friend. I too have built numerous scale birds of all sizes and none are "easy install".... It is quite normal to have to "cut and shut", modify tail controls etc.etc. Two identical scale fuses with identical mechanics can present totally different problems sad to say. That combo you have is arguably one of the easiest to install IMO. But for me that is the attraction of scale building. Did you think it would all go in a box, give a little shake and go fly...? That 'aint gunna happen.

I doubt this comment will help, but I've built my first scale project. It was the Align TRex 500 based Super Cobra. By comparison with this Heli Artist experience, I was really very impressed with how perfectly everything fit on my Cobra. There was virtually no rework needed to build it. Building this model was not exactly a pure scale build since the fuse is already ready for assembly, I must admit. But as such, it allowed me to focus on painting and details. It was a pure joy from start to finish. I did cut some of the un-stressed carbon away from where the battery normally is positioned on the T-Rex frames, but it was simple and quick to do to simply make plenty of room for the cockpit to have clearance. It was very encouraging for my first scale project. With no prior real building experience (outside of numerous 3D pod/boom helis), it made it a lot of fun.
Best wishes bringing it back together,

I've noticed that most of the fuselage manufacturers have/will not keep up with the changes in Heli design. I've put TRex EFLs in mulitiple RCA fuses designed for...Gas/Nitro/ESP/Ver1/their own model/something else... and it always involves new engineering and custom building. I really keep wondering why I do it It's all part of the game.

Things seen that way, I must agree with you friends. Prior to be in Helis Ive made A LOT of wood airplanes, so Im not new in the build business. ANYWAY, Ive had no contact from Heliartist till now. Ive decided to BUY the parts kit, wich cost me extra $20 to have my original windows. BUT I think its not the way to do that. The kit MUST contain the parts listed. Im very happy with the model, Im in the details now. Cheers..
