Thank you Cascade and Sirolf. 155.5mm gave me 135mm of boom clearance. Looking forward to flying this new head.

What servo wheels are being used for this DFC head ?

I did the DFC conversion, including modding the main shaft. I was getting 45° of pitch in each direction with my swash mix set at ~60% while using the original servo wheels. To get ± 12° I had to turn my swash mix down to ~22% with the standard 600N servo wheels.

I used short balls on the inner swash plate and I moved the balls on my align servo wheels from the outermost hole to the next hole inward. There is still tons of pitch available but I set my pitch in the beastx to 14 degrees each way.

Does anyone know if the DFC main shaft item no H60243 fits the Nitro, doesn't come with the normal warnings for the elec only.
Cheers

Currently there is no factory made shaft for the DFC head installed on a 600N. Any shaft made for an electric 600 absolutely does not fit a 600N.

This is how I fly mine, and most of us are set up. This also gives enough resolution to make the beastx give a blue light when setting 6 degrees of cyclic.

I only run 10 degrees of pitch, my poor little OS 50 would die above that

I should lower my maximum pitch to 10 degrees also as my OS 50 chokes quite often while I am flying. I know bad collective management.

I just ordered an Align 600DFC CCPM Metal Swashplate H60248. I ordered it from Taiwan as my usual heli parts places were all backordered. Infinity shipped it the same day I ordered the part. How long from Taiwan to Florida ? 12 ~ 14 days ?

Ron's has modified shafts for the nitro, $16 bucks, ordered one & it works fine. Cut one myself, but couldn't figure out how to bore the hole accurately. Can report it works perfectly, set it up with the linkages as per the manual & the blades tracked spot on.

It really is not that difficult to drill the Jesus bolt hole in a cut down main shaft.

Use an unmodified shaft on top of the one you want to drill. Clamp these two shafts in a drill press vise and use the hole in the unmodified shaft to guide the drill bit into the shaft you need a new hole.

Before tightening the vise on the two shafts use the drill bit chucked in the drill press to make sure the guide shaft hole is perpendicular to the drill press table.

Default question for you guys

Hey guys my friend just installed the dfc head on his 600n (V1) with the main shaft cut to size and now he is worried there is going to be a boom strike... Is this a valid concern? Has anyone heard of or had an issues yet?

He now wants to try to return the dfc head and go with the old fbl head... I don't think he can return it opened now but he can sell it I guess

Thanks in advance!

Bob

The dampers on my DFC / 600N setup are really stiff. I am not capable of hard 3D but I have flipped around my 600N pretty good without a boom strike. Maybe ten flights.

Thank you for the reply Bayward, can you (or anyone else) take a measurement for me of the distance from your blade to your boom and include what size blades you have and which version 600n you have... Thank you, I just want to ease my friends mind

I have 2 gallons through mine with the DFC head with the dampeners it came with, of hard sport flying and mild 3D. Hard walls and full direction changes, 2050 head speed.

I run the blades as tight as I can and only 10 degrees of collective. No indication of any issues, blades to boom are approx 135mm.

Couple of gallons now with the new DFC head. I put a new engine in, YS60, at the same time I changed the head. The first several tanks were mild flying, but I've gotten more and more aggressive and still no strikes. Hard stops, directional changes, etc. that could potentially cause strikes and nothing so far. Like others, I'm running the latest dampers and tight blade grips. Works very very well.

Thanks a lot for the replies... He has the older 600n has anyone tried this with that model that anyone knows of? Not sure if it makes a difference between models but I think he is feeling better about it already with the measurements you guys gave, he is at 133mm and it gave him a perfect 0 degrees on installation

Mine is an old original 600N, I have put a metal tail on it and DFC but the bearing blocks and everything are all plastic.

I think a big factor in a boom strike other than soft dampeners is too much cyclic and collective pitch. Only fly as much as you actually need, I have seen this with the SAB Goblin. If you run max cyclic and 14 degrees of pitch you can boom strike pretty easily, if you run 12 degrees and back the cyclic off a touch you can do full collective/cyclic maneuvers without it digging into the boom.
