Was a bit bored this morning so I crunched some figures in the castle ice software.
The battery i looked at real quick was a thunderpower 5 series pro 45c. Dimensions are L 102mm x W 35mm x H 41mm and a weight of 292 grams. Should fit under canopy in regular orientation, espescialy fusuno canopies. With an 18 tooth pinion castle software allows a 3050 setrpm govorned headspeed at 93.9%. 3100 puts it just into the pink(not red) at 95.5% which is just a 1/2 percentage point over and the castle software is pretty conservative. The ready heli headspeed calculator as well as mr.mels (the same as far as I can tell) allow higher governed head speeds with the jive/ yge type govornor. This has more watt hours than a 6s 1800mah 45c battery. Looks interesting to me and castle flight calculator shows excellent flight time and efficiancy loads so close to the 6s setup it is funny. I am positive we will start seeing 1800 mah 6s batteries that will fit right in the mini but just wanted to pass this along as it seems the 290 gram or so batteries that are around 100mm long balance just fine in the stretch. I still do not like the extra weight but with the longer blades maybe this is not the issue I think it is. Just some food for thought guy's |

Hey guy's I would like some input on this. I ordered 2 tp 65c 1300mah last friday and tp wont start putting them together till the middle of next week. I am almost tempted to cancel the 1300's and tell em to ship me 2250mah 5s 45c instead. Will only coct me a small bit more. Tell me what you think!

It's tail heavy on 1300mah 6s for the stretched. 1800mah 6s is perfect on the cg, it's a tight fit under he canopy but it will fit. 5s 2250 is hard to find and is expensive from TP. I paid $23 per pack for the 1800 6s plus shipping and it took 2 days to receive from hobbyking. And judging from the after flight temps it should last fine.
If you do go with the 2250 5s let us know of your findings

gens ace has 2200 5s in 25c and 30c. Hyperion has 2200 5s in 35 c and 45 c but the hyps are a bit to tall . My point is I already paid for the 1300tp's and can get the 5s 2250's for about 14 bucks more. Will be locked into a max headspeed of 3100 or possibly 3200 but I usualy have max at 3050 anyways. The 1300's can balance a stretch but got hang em over the front a bit. Hell I am ready to cancel everything and get some turnigy 1800 6s 40c LOL.

I tried two new cheap packs yesterday:
$25.99 - Turnigy nano-tech 1300mAh 6S1P 35~70C Lipo Pack http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...e_E4_etc_.html I could not tell the difference between this and my TP 1300's, flight time was the same. $24.86 - Turnigy nano-tech 1400mah 3S 40~80C Lipo Pack http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...6_models_.html I also could not tell a performace difference with the TP's and after my normal flight time where the TP's would have come down ~25%, these were still 41%, so it would appear more flight time is available. I have only done 1 cycle on each and was pretty happy, time will tell... I am expecting the nano's to start to fade with more cycles. Both packs came down only slightly warmer than the TP's do, which is just above ambient.

I am currently running non-stretched Mini with 5S 1800 mAh 16T pinion at 70% getting 3000 rpm headspeed using 1300 kv motor. FF sport flying gives me about 7.5 min to 20% capacity. 18T pinion may be a bit of overkill unless you are looking for something like 4000 headspeed. what really sold me on this setup was fit under canopy and no need for balancing . BTW battery is 40C Zippy - at about $20 each - hell of a deal.

the 1630kv scorpion (i couldn't find specs on the 1300) is rated for 25A. Based on that I would say the 1300Kv version is rated for ~23A. On 6S that gives ~500W on 5S only ~425W.
So you are limiting the power of the heli (and expect the motor to get really hot). This is probably the reason mini protos motors run so hot, they are all designed for 6S use (I think the 1300Kv version can do 8S) and we use most of them at 3 or 4S.

well, i do agree that while going down with voltage we will encounter higher heat losses than with 6s setup, but the entire system is not based on motor alone. There are some other considerations like need to use unreliable 14T pinion due to very high speed of 1300 kv motor on 6s, need to run lower percentages on throttle curves, hence losses in ESC. I would probably like to run 6s setup but on 1100 kv motor using 16T pinion and have 6s 1600 mAh battery, but unfortunately those things do not exist in available market, so I decided to experiment a bit... so far I like it.
