Sounds like a victim of stock soft dampers? There are a couple guys here reporting they're flying 550mm with 90mm tails .
If you care to give it another shot, and if you don't already have em, get POM dampers. They are delrin not rubber.
Another option is to cut down a stock 550 shaft so it's not as low as the DFC. Needs longer links obviously.

Dampeners is not the fix. Blades should never be able to physically hit the tail blades.

And yes I use pom. But a hard wall will simply destroy the tail blades.

I really can't understand why Align just doesn't revise the heli and come out with a TRUE 550 size machine, extend the boom a inch or two and lighten the turd up and make it nice heli.

The smoothness of the Logo 600 has spoilt me. My Trex 550e sounds loud and unrefined by comparison. I plan to strip down my 550e and transfer the components across to the Synergy E5 when it becomes available. Goblin 500 looks interesting but it does not look like it will swing 550 sized blades.

Put another 4 flights on my T550 between yesterday and today and I just really dont like the heli. I picked up a almost ready to fly T700 V2 today for a steal off a local guy so now I may part the 550 and the 700 out and get the 600sx when it comes out.

i own both and yes the t550e is heavy and loud! i am working on flying smooth and slow for ap work and use the 550e for training such as learning to fly nose in etc. been flying the 550e at areas to learn to fly smooth and close to objects as seen in this photo. trying to get used to 1000' of feet under the heli and dropping way down nose in, challenging take off and landings also. dont want to risk the logo yet!
