Default new to the Diabolo club

he guys, I pulled the trigger (wife said go for it) on a second hand diabolo. Its got all the goodies - kosmic 160, mks x8, pyro 800-48, spartan vortex, I'm really stoked! Got a new white canopy w green decal coming, just got 2 glacier 12s 5300 stick packs,

Ive been flying a logo 600sx and this thing looks like a beast sitting next to the logo, I'm debating on doing a complete teardown but i wanna fly it a bit first. It's got 690 vblades on currently and I was thnking 1800 rpm to start out (mild 3d).

Any tips or things to check or watch out for would be much appreciated.

Mark

Just make sure you get the belt tension right and the main gear meshed correctly.

I would say to do at least a partial rebuild. Remember, birds of this size are lethal so safety first!

I purchased my Triabolo used and although the original owner did a great job building the bird, I did find a few screws where the loctite was not holding (happens to all of us). I basically tore mine down to the core frame elements, leaving the gears in and simply removed/cleaned and "re-loctited" all the screws and ensured all the bearings where ok. This also gave me the opportunity to set it up according to the manual and ensure everything is right. Now if it crashed due to a mechanical failure, its my fault not someone elses... I can deal with that better. :-)

Congrats! Depending on what you've been flying before, well actually almost regardless of what you've been flying, it will be a treat.

I have the same ESC and motor, only rewound for lower KV. It's a really nice combo. I'm also using the Vortex and (for me anyway) it's spot-on.

As suggested above I would do a tear down. Even if you trust the person who built it 100% I would still at least go around and check everything

i'm using also the vortex and mks x8 on my diabolo.
the only thing i would change are the 690 vblades.
the great thing about the diabolo is that you're able to use longer blades than on other 700size helis.

get some 710 or 715 mm blades and it will be great

i can post my vortex setup tomorrow if you want it

I think new main and tail blade are in order, I'm flying mild 3D, any suggestions? (710 / 115mm?) (I've got Rails on my 600sx and like em) Also, yes on the Vortex setup - that would be awesome. Now if I can get this new canopy set up perfect without schmucking up the decals I'll be off to a good start.

i'm 3d guy so basically i don't like blades which are too, soft when it comes to cyclic and collective response. i'm using ms composit rapid 710
but for your purpose the rails 716 are a pretty good blades.
they're very precise and track extremely good and they are not so aggressive on cyclic and collective .
they are great for big air flying in my opinion.

rails 116 are by far the best tail blades I have ever used on my tail

this is a flight with 1800 headspeed and a pretty heavy setup (5,7kg)

For lower headspeed with the silver pulley they are great but for around 2000-2100 they become too much. gain has to go way down. I use the rail 106's at that headspeed and are excellent very crisp stops and nice high tail gain.

I'm using them also with 2300 headspeed and the silver pulley without Problems.

Depends also on which servo you are using. I'm able to use much higher gains with my hbl 880 than with a savox or jr tail servos.

30% tail gain on my vortex with the 18,5 hole and it works just great. Probably it will be even better with a 17mm hole ^^

Im talking about running gain up at around 55% with a Futaba BLS 256HV forget the mm from center the horn on the servo.

The gain depends also on the fbl unit....
The gains with spartan gyros are much lower compared to beast or vbar so it isn't uncommon to run gains arround 30%

this is with a cgy 750 so probably on the higher side but with 116's i was down around 40% above 2000 hs

Thanks so much for the setup, I'll compare to what's on the unit now. I.ve got the boom and tail mechanics set up, This tail is the smoothest I've seen and the clamp to the boom is so cool. Blades due in tomorrow. Maybe a maiden this weekend!

Well here it is, didn't get the windshield decal on perfect, but it will do for now. I've just got to get some flights (5 currently) under my belt and get used to the size and power of this beast. The Spartan seems pretty solid.
