HDX 500SE V1
HS-85 cyclic, 401 with 9254, 140T spur, 14T pinion, Scorpion 1210, CC PHX 60, SportBEC, MaxAmps/Zippies 3000 mah 6S. Running FRP blades that look like RotorTecs. Too lazy to put the pretty Radixs on.

Throttle curves S, I1, I2: 80 flat, 90 flat,100 flat. 12 minutes @ 80% till lVC, 2500 RPM.

MODS:

V2 head parts, 130-140 side frames, TRex flybar/paddles, TRex LG, Complete TRex tail and case MacGyvered to HDX boom. Scorpion motor has Ceramic bearings. Oiling shielded standard bearings is futile.

Default Why the HS-85MG's?

Seems like everyone so far is running the HS-85MG's but me. Why? Why not the HS-82MG? It is faster and the torque difference is minuscule not to mention $10 cheaper? I'm not saying the 85's are bad servos I just think the 82's are better. What made you decide on them?

Interesting setup and you're swinging some big blades!!!!! Couple questions for you Kos. Did you lengthen the boom? Can you post a link of that MG and pinion setup? I've never heard of anything like it! Verry Cool!!!!

Nice setups all around!

Hey Viridis which MG are you running?

Yup, stretched the tail with a 15x540mm carbon fiber tube and a longer belt. Got just enought clerance to put 470mm main blades. Since the blade are longer I reduced the head speed to 2000RPM.

I found the main gear on Ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/CNC-1-0M-main-ge...3286.m20.l1116 ) and I use Century swift16 motor pinion since the Swift also use 1.0 mod main gear and pinion. The 56T 1.0mod main gear is stronger then the stock one, fit my motor (1100KV) and I don't need to mod the frame for a larger main gear (130 - 140 tooth).

See ya

Still not sure yet, I didn't push my battery. Probably something like my eco 8, around 10min of sport flying, 4-5 min of 3D with a 4S 4000mah battery.

I bought my HDX from freakinnovice. Thanks, man!!! It's a SAH with SE head/tail.

All specs in sig. Running the 94t main gear with a 20t pinion, stock 850 kv motor on 2650 mAh 6s zippys. CY cosflaw blades, and a canomod canopy I threw on the T-Rex 500 tail hub and grips so I could run with CY 72mm tail blades. Only downside... the vertical stabilizer is now just slightly longer than the blades themselves... anyone know of a good vertical stabilizer that hangs down a bit more?

I get about 7.5 minutes of flying time. Just getting into forward flight, trying some 8's, good stuff...

First time posting here so I hope I've gotten it right.

My HDX500 SAH now has an alloy tail box.
140T main gear (yes, you can just make it fit).
Genuine Bitsa flybarless head which is about 12mm lower than stock.
Scorpion HK 3026-1000.
20T pinion.
HS82s
Gy240 - Futaba 9257, boom mounted.
SK360.
Turnigy Plush 60.
Zippy 4S 2650 lipos.
Futaba 6ex 2.4.
Trex500 skids.

It wouldn't make a 3D guy happy, but it has plenty of power for sports flying. Flybarless doesn't seem to need the same headspeed and saves on drag too.
I can't get a weight to quote, but it takes off a fair bit lighter than most 500s.

Someone pm'd and asked how you fit a 140T main gear into an HDX500 SAH, so here's how I did it.

Just a bit of Dremelling really. Take the slot aft as close to the belt guide pulleys as you dare, then take it forward enough so that the gear will slide in. The trick is that you need to slide the gear in forward of its running position a little, then slide it back to drop the mast in. The rear of the gear is then slightly further back than the rearward slot extension you cut, but as it's now centered between the frames, that doesn't matter.

I think that you could also just remount the belt guide assembly further back and go straight in, but I didn't try that as it seemed like more work for the same result. Also I didn't want to remove any more frame material than I really had to.

Next, you'll find that the new gear sits too low, so make a spacer from the middle of your old gear and fit it into the recess in the 140T to raise it up a bit. It's a while since I did this so I don't recall clearly, but I'm pretty sure you'll need to do that.

Now you'll need to dremel just a mil or two off of the bottom edge of the gear slot to get clearance, then remount the motor forward and your done.

Mine runs pretty close at the rear but the mast locates it solidly so it's cool. Clearance is clearance.

Flown a few hours with this now and no probs, so I consider it well worth the trouble as it's a good gutsy gear. The 130T is fine too and a little easier to fit but its not easy to find in my part of the world.

Hope this helps.

Wow, I just looked at my photo - I really should have cleaned her up a bit first : \

Thanks. I ended up getting the G10 HC500 vertical stabilizer. It's long enough to clear a tail with t-rex 500 tail hub, grips, and 72mm curtis youngblood blades.
