So I bought a used mcp x from a friend a little while back. It was a solidly built brushless conversion he did well over a year ago. It was a good flyer, but used the stock frame and an in runner motor with an esc I am unfamiliar with, and and old style steve. I decided to rebuild it with and make some changes.
I started with a call to my buddy Topper (new bee) and he set me up with everything I needed, at very reasonable prices with his reliably fast shipping. Thanks again Topper! I also ordered some fresh hyp 550's from allerc. So I began the tear down. Here are some pics of what I started with. Last edited by ChrisG23; 06-23-2012 at 03:34 PM.. |

You can see the old novus in runner in the third pic. Not sure of the kv. It was a step up from a c05, but bogged on even moderate 3d. in the next pics, you can see the board is cleaned up, and the new equipment is installed. Sorry to those who are hoping for something new or innovative, I know this has all been done before.

I have to snap a few pics of the finished heli to post up. I haven't had a chance for a real test flight yet. I did a few short hops in the kitchen last night and all I can say is wow! I nicked my finger with a blade once in a c05 powered bird and it cut right through my finger nail. This thing sounds like it will take the finger off! I am not an advanced pilot by any means, so this thing will truly command my undivided attention.
I would really like to build a 2s bird next, but the nearing release of the 130x may alter those plans. I really enjoy building these things though, its as much fun as flying for me. ![]() |

Here are the finished pic's. The stock body has to go but it will do the job for now. lol I have a few gently flights on it now and it flies nice, not as nasty as I thought it would be. I did tame it down a bit through the tx settings. I have the gov. set at 70 for now, and the pitch at 90%. I may bump the gov up a bit and lower the pitch. the 120 sr tail with a plantranco on it still has very mild tbo on hard pitch pumps. Maybe 15 to 25 degrees. Then it over compensates and ends up about 15 degrees to the left
I may have the tail boom a bit too long Anyways, the batteries come dow a bit warmer than I would like after a 3:30 flight, with a voltage of 3.85v. They are new though, so they may get a little better. The motor has a 9t on it if I forgot to mention. -ChrisLast edited by ChrisG23; 06-23-2012 at 08:15 PM.. |

I had better luck with a MSR main motor for the tail. I do not think those little brushes like going the wrong way. You could also mount the motor the other way. Other things to try are the double FET mod and direct solder the tail wires.

moto, I also used an msr main motor for my tail. That was on the old setup. I replaced it with this new 120sr motor. I should reverse the tail motor mount and try that msr motor again.
Guys, what are your average flight times and ending voltages on setups similar to mine? |

About 4:00 - 4:30 ending voltage about 3.7. I have only run the hp06v2 for 10 flights or so, it was not playing so well with xp7a and gov. I will give it a fair chance when the weather clears as I just flashed a xp12a. So far I like the HP08 13200kv most, holds RPM better and is easier on the batteries. Climb out is still very good with the lower kv. I will test both on the xp12a, may change the outcome.

Looking Good Chris!!! What length boom are you running? Try reversing the 120 tail motor.

Im going to pull it apart again and redo some stuff. Some of the solder joints look a bit sloppy. I may do the direct wiring to the board, and swap the 120 motor for the msr main and see how that goes, along with twisting the tail 180 degrees.
Topper, id like to do the fet mod only as a last resort. |

I just did an HP06V2 also.
Have had the TA915 for a while in a MH frame. I decided I wanted to try the stock frame with dylan's rear AR guide. JUST got finished building it. Test flew it in the living room and it seems good to go. It's a screamer!
