Default Setting up Spektrum DX8 for gyro?

Hi, I am completely new to helis.
I have a Trex 500 esp with a Aligin GP780 Gyro.

I am basically trying to find out what setting to set the DX8 up in and which channel to plug the yellow wire from the gyro into.

1. So first up, I have the 3 wires from the gyro plugged into the RUDD channel on the receiver, 3 wires from the servo in the gyro, Now i am left with the yellow wire.
Dose this go into either AUX 2 or the GEAR channel on the receiver?

2. On the radio in system setup, sw select.
All are currently Inh, do i leave it this way or do i have to change anything?

3. On the radio in Function list, Gyro.
Currently Inhibit,
Options are : On, F Mode, Gyro, Alie D/R, Elev D/R, Rud D/R, Gov, Mix.
I am guessing that by flicking through them all that I have to chose one of them and then it looks like I have to set a rate.

Really unsure what to do at this point, Have read through the manual but unsure.

4. Lastly Governor.
As it is the Trex 500esp, do I still need to set up the governor being electric.
Again unsure as what to do here as well.

I am only setting it to be a docile as possible, just until i get the hang of hovering.
It is mainly going to be used for sport flying, not so much 3D.

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make sure i get it right the first time.

Any information on these would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

1. Yes you can choose! The reason being depending on what receiver you are using, and whether or not you are rusing a governor or a revlimiter.

If you are using a 6ch receiver, AUX2 isnt available, so then the choice would be Gear.

With the receiver AR7110R the Gear channel is hardwired to use the Gear channel for the RPM-gain, so you must use Aux2 for the Gyro gain.

2. The system setup menu is a little bogus imo. It looks like it was meant to give us the possibility to map switches to whatever function we want, but that isnt the case. Or atleast I havent found out how to do it (neither do I see the need for it either, but thats a different case).
Leave it all Inh which basicly means default.

3. For simplicity, just select the option: "On". And you will only have one rate to pay attention to.

But for instance with spartan gyros, I will need to switch between rate and heading hold mode in order to enter setup-mode, so I choose an option that lets me set different rates, either with flightmode switch, or the Gyro-switch.

4. If you were using an external governor like the Align or something (if you had a nitro bird), then that unit would have a yellow gain wire which you could control through the Governor-menu and the gear or aux3 channel. But the Align ESC doesent have that capability, because the governor function is programmed beforehand in the unit it self. So basicly the Governor-menu have no impact what so ever on your ESC. If you want a governed RPM you have to check the setup-manual of your ESC.

Ok, So the radio I am using is the Spektrum DX8 (8 channel)
The heli is the Trex 500 esp (electric).

Still a little confused as this is my first heli.
I can plug the yellow wire of the gyro into AUX2 of GEAR?
So I just select ON for the gyro setting.
Then what should i roughly set the gain % at to start with?
It is only going to be set up very docile just to get use to hovering and the like.

Any more information is greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

First question I have for you is RX? I am assuming its an AR8000.

Being the expert that I am with exactly 6 flights and one crash you can take what I say as the final word in all this.... Just kidding!!!

Please someone else should weight in.

Yellow wire goes into ether... just make sure in the gyro menu its set to the same channel. I use AUX2 best practice.

yes. But at some point later on you may want to play with Rate then its a whole new game.

Start somewhere around 32.0 You have to kind of play with this to find out what works best for you. I have mine set at 28.0 but I have heard every thing between 16.0 to as high as 56.0

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I've got a 450pro and have a gyro setting of 38 or so. The great thing about the DX8 is you can adjust the gyro gain using the trim switch. With this set you can just keep adjusting the trim until it is just right .... great stuff. On the gyro gain page you get all the various gyro settings you have preset (depending on which switch you are using .... I'm using 'gyro'), then in brackets is the actual gain in use depending on how the trim has been 'adjusted'. Hope this all makes sense as I havn't got my radio with me at the mo.
