tempest!!! That was a awesome canopy. All of em are really nice! Do you guys all paint your own canopies? I was just curious as to that because I have already screwed up one canopy, and I'm getting ready to start on another. Hopefully this one will turn out better. These really inspire me to do alot better on next one. I'm actually thinking about buying one already painted, just hate to spend 90 bucks on it.

TerryBelanger, I'd be scared to fly that canopy it looks soo good.

Hi Jeff,
Great thread! Those are some sweet paint jobs. I have painted a bunch of canopies for myself and others. I am working on a new Fury now. When it's finished, I'll post some pics. I am a professional full scale aircraft painter.
So, I have all the tools. Knowing how long it takes me to paint a canopy, $90.00 is a bargain price! I charge $120.00 for a 3 color fade with 1 color for the windshield.
I don't understand how some painters are doing it so inexspensively! Look at Canomod canopies. Their Raptor and T-rex canopies are simply amazing and cost very little. I guess that's why I paint canopies for fun and not for a living!

Doug,
Yep I've looked at those canopies, they are very nice! However, if I have 100 bucks to spend I'm gonna buy something for the performance of the Heli. I'm just gonna learn how to paint em myself. I guarantee they will be nowhere near as good as these, but I'm gonna learn how to do some nice ones.

If you use House of Kolors or some of the other automotive type paints and clear these painters use. You will see why they charge the money they do for canopy paint.
Buying quality products just to do one canopy can run better than $100. Even if you use the Pactra FasColor or other water based paints. Still going to tie up $40 plus in a clear coat to go over it. Paint supplies are not inexpensive when using quality products.

Yes, the materials are very exspensive. But you will have left overs for your next project. If you keep HoK on a shelf, it will gel and be useless. I keep mine in a refridgerator. They last a couple of years in there! Just let them warm up before trying to shoot them...

here's my Fury...Not quite as cool as the others here, but I painted it and made the decals myself...color is Rustoleum (out of a spray can) and my friend did the automotive clearcoat for me..
