That's bad ass! The white head with white blades is pretty sick looking. Very cool man.

Hi, can you tell us the shaft diameter of this motor. Or which exact pinion you are using?

Thanks,

Hi,
the motor has normaly 3 mm shaft and at the end 2.3 mm.
I exchange this against 3.17 mm......and the pinion is:

Awesome Richard!
It's so good to see another one of these.

Wasn't there talk of finding a way to use a pre-fab'd swash ball since it was the last piece that needs machining to build this?

@Dean: as Richard mentioned, I happen to have a leftover canopy (getting into airbrush right now )

Canopy zip can be found here (thanks Jonas for the contribution and design): http://www.oblivion-heli.com/wp-cont...stl/canopy.zip

I will add it to the full zip soon. I might have mentioned earlier: I currently use an SLS printed positive mold to thermoform the canopy from PVC plastic. It is quite some work especially smoothing the SLS plastic surface. But I get exactly the canopy I want, and Fusuno / Canomod were not particularly interested in contributions here...which would be connected to an investment and therefore is somewhat understandable.

@Vertico: Get a GE4E spherical bearing and pop out the inner ball - voilą. Perfect fit, I added this info to the getting started section as well. Funny enough I have been looking for those for months, and it turns out the solution was in my toolbox all along...

Regarding the canopy, as an alternative to using a moulding I have been looking into getting one SLS printed direct. The wall thickness is below the recommended for Shapeways so it may end up not working, or being too fragile but I'm prepared to be a pioneer I can't tell you anymore at the moment as it is literally being made right now, but hopefully I'll have an answer next week....

Not sure how I missed that! I thought machining was still required! Alright, 1st step I've ordered my GE4E bearing! I'll order my remaining hardware this week!

I am very close to ordering myself some parts to build this. There are no excuses anymore . It will be a cool winter project if I can find some spare time.

Criz, you should sell the canopies! It's such a vital piece in my mind. But I'm one of those guys that doesn't like to fly without a canopy. Lol!

@mmel: printing direct might work. weight is critical, it is still a 300 heli. the surface of sls plastic is not really predestined for glossy paint finish, if you know what i mean. but definitely worth a try.

@vertico: sounds great, let me know if you have any questions. yes, machining is no more required. yet the heli is still on the opposite side of bind-and-fly, so an understanding of materials etc. is helpful..

@deanr: try a blade 300 canopy. with a little 'persuasion' i think it fits ok. i did get a lynx canopy recently, dimension-wise it is a good match.

Same for me. Ordered first parts and thanks to mmel for sending some parts.

Creating the canopy will be the biggest challenge. @Criz. Can you tell us what's in the canopy.slt file? Is this the positive mold? Thanks for explaining

@Wiebe_nl: It is the positive mold in two halfs, including an offset and guides for cutting. You probably can use filament based printing as well, since there will be manual work (sanding etc.) anyway.

Hey guys,

I just uploaded the new xmas-zip on http://www.oblivion-heli.com/index.php/getting-started/ containing
- New SLS printable tail blades
- SLS printable canopy
- Re-designed heavy duty rotor head, eliminates the need for additional 1mm shim
- New and lighter tail fin
- Modified head linkages to fit 2.5mm bearings
- Servo adapter plates for Spektrum H3050

Special thanks to Jonas for his contributions!

Just in time for the Shapeways 25% off Strong & Flexible on December 25th.

Also, we shot a new video showcasing a bunch of Oblivions at the traditional 'Plätzchenfliegen' in Karlsruhe:

Oblivion 300+ @ Plätzchenfliegen 2015 (2 min 36 sec)

Also, (thanks to Wiebe for the info) meltwerk.com now accepts the Oblivion chassis, printing cost is at 27 EUR for the chassis. Check it out on https://www.meltwerk.com/

Finally, desktop and mobile wallpapers:
