Tail gear / main gear issue
So here is my problem, if you look at the small tail gear you will see that the inner part of it is a molded spacer for the lower portion and also extends on the top. Its the area gets pressed onto the shaft and comes already together from the factory. The top portion sticks just a bit higher than the gear itself and the main gear is rubbing on the top of it. Its not much but it is rubbing. My main gear is pressed all the way to the top. When I used locktite on the tail gear shaft the gear was seated all the way down.
Any thoughts? |

Hey rmalt, the gap on mine is VERY tiny, but i can get light to come thru. If you hold up in the air by the rotor head, does the space open up?

Here is also the problem, my main gear is not perfectly flat so there is a bit of wobble in it. So there is a high side and a low side and when it gets to the low side it will touch the other gear. When working with plastic parts I don't know why they would make the tolerances so close..

This problem is a "clasic" one. See this sticky by HFG (aka Capi, spreading Capybara awareness): https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...33&postcount=8

my main was also slightly out of round. If Capi's method doesnt help (or if you have one handy), try an align main gear. There black and I have had good luck with them as replacements in my belt CP of all things.

Well I made a big mess!! I wish I knew about this problem before I used red locktite on the shaft. I ended up melting part of the gear trying to heat up the bearing to get the shaft out. Thats ok, I already broke it trying to push on it to get it lower.
I'll order a few parts and get a main gear that spins true. So far Im not too impressed. I know that can change! |

bummer man...im glad mine has been fairly "close to spec" thus far. Im setting mine up for "mild" on the few few flights (both head settings on the tame side). What pinion are you using? I was thinking 11T is where I would start, but i have never "picked a pinion" before, so i wasnt sure.

Did yours have the updated tail? Part of the tail was different than the manual. I guess you don't need to do that JB weld like Capi was talking about. Im not sure what pinion yet, my setup is FBL but I will go for the max headspeed on 6S not to exceed the tail limit. I think this heli has a max headspeed per the manual

yeah, updated (one peice arm) tail, AR bracket and im sure some other places where i looked at the manual, looked back at mine, back at the manual and went "close enough".
Im sure it would be cheap, but an updated manual (this one still reads 2008) would be fantastic, especially if we are going to get more people flying these. Seems like the focus now is on the "big boys".

well of course; but for every trex 700 out there i imagine many many more 450's were bought (and crashed).
Gotta support all ends of the spectrum

I do understand, the unyielding need to support and develop new products, but the focus should be customer related, not product cycle related.

The customer support is there, has been and always will be. But development will always focus on new products, not improving old ones, sorry but that is just how things work.

So I just got home last night and heli direct sent me some parts to fix my main gear issue with the tail gear. So the sent me a pack of 3 white main gears. I put one on and it wobbles so bad it hits the frame. WTF Now Im on my way to the post office to pick up my SK720 from heli direct.
If there is an issue with it I may blow up So I guess Im off to buy align parts for an Outrage heli! GREAT Good Job!! Sorry, I just want to get this P.O.S. in the air so I can love it like everyone else!!! |
