Governor
I have a stock standard Trex 500Pro fitted with a Sk720BE, and loving it , however the governor mode in the 720 has got me interested in using this feature but I have no experience in running a governor and I'm not a 100% clear if it is ok to use the Sk720BE governor coupled with the stock Align 70amp ESC and a Hyperion RPM sensor.( I also have a HobbyKing YEP 80A if that is better)
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

=] it is in no way difficult to run the gov mode, use the gov wizz to take you thro' each step, the hardware you are running will work great on this heli, the sensor you need is a digital type for best results = http://www.helidirect.com/rpm-sensor-p-26366.hdx
enable the gov in the software first before plugging in to avoid sensor damage, and shout us here if you need more!

Thank you georgi UK for the info, ordered the recommended sensor and will try it out.

The older Align ESCs I've tested have non-linear jump from 90% to 100% throttle. This makes them unsuitable for governor use. They have have corrected this by now, but I haven't tested one recently. If you have weird tail kicks, that could be the issue.
The sensor you recommended has voltage limit of 8.4v. Please update your guidance.

the IO-C gov port is outputting a live channel voltage until the gov is enabled, SK warn to enable this first for the reasons I posted. to avoid sensor damage. it's got nothing to do with the sensor rating? please don't confuse the OP with less than factual comments? thanks, georgi.

=] my Hyperion sensors run 2S voltage and are good for 25vdc measured at the pack voltage, it's wrong for me to not state the SK warning ( you can look it up ) when someone is looking for gov guidance, that develops into another thread " my sensor isn't working help" we have seen this!
it's not difficult to turn on the gov before we connect, or ignore my guidance if that is easier!

Please share your reference for the Hyperion at 25v. I believe the datasheet that came with my Hyperion said 6v max.

Re: Governor
Hard to say. I can say that I ran my Hobbywing for MONTHS plugged into IO-C but the governor not enabled yet. I was waiting for the news that SK had gotten some of the known issues with the governor worked out. No harm was done to the sensor, it's working just fine.

----------------------------------------------- RPM Sensors: CAUTION: Be sure to activate the RPM sensor from the PC setup software before connecting your RPM sensor. Your RPM sensor could be damaged if you don’t. See Section 11 of this manual for information about how to set the SK720 for use with an RPM sensor. With an RPM sensor connected, your helicopter’s flight logs will include RPM data. Once set, the RPM sensor connects to port IO-C. Most halleffect base sensors will work but be careful with sensors from Eagle Tree. Wiring on Eagle Tree sensors is non-standard but they should work normally if you switch their red and black leads. -------------------------------------------------- this has nothing to do with the sensor voltage rating, that's another area. my hyperion sensors work on a HV setup, no problems! ------------------------------------------------------- Can you provide maximum voltage input for the RDU Phase Tachometer for brushless motors. Thank you.________ All products that can be used with the E-meter are designed for 6S lipo max. Gregor99, you do realize that georgiUK is a tester for Skookum and probably the single most helpful and knowledgeable person on the Skookum forum other then Art(the owner and brains of SK) himself. You should do your homework before you start arguing with someone on here. No offence but, he is in the loop and knows far more then you do dude. Thanks for all your help always georgi

Did some tests, here are the results. SK540 firmware 3.40
Governor Enabled Voltage Out on IO-C ========================== Positive pin: +6v (BEC voltage) Negative pin: NA Signal pin: +3.3v Governor Disabled Voltage Out on IO-C ========================== Positive pin: +6v (BEC voltage) Negative pin: NA Signal pin: +3.3v I'm not seeing any difference in voltage on IO-C when the governor is enabled/disabled. What are the repro steps to see the damaging live channel voltage on IO-C?

Greg - I dont think what you are trying to prove has any positive help to anyone here. When Skookum recommend a safety procedure it may even be just to cover 1% of users, but that 1% is still important.
The correct procedure requires zero effort . Georgi Uk is on here spending a lot of time curing real issues and helping out and its frustrating to see him dragged into a useless argument. Maybe conduct your experiment and provide Skookum your results and let them decide whther to change the manual. cheers....

Regarding the issue at hand, yes its a minor one. But the Skookum governor setup is challenging enough for some users without adding outdated information and unneeded steps. Like you, I would rather see Skookum and Georgi focus their energy on the real unresolved firmware issues that persist with the governor and not continue to waste time debating an issue that has already been resolved and documented. Probably time to close this thread.
