Ummm, you don't have to reply to a question if it irritates you.

This forum is inhabited by people from many walks of life. Some don't comprehend manuals very well, especially if they were translated from another language. Some learn better by "show me". Some are pretty "tech-savvy" some aren't. Some are computer geeks and some aren't. Some young, some older.

I guess patience comes with age. As posted above, if it bothers you, just let it go by. Don't sweat the small stuff in life. Be happy.

OK, I am slow, I am looking at the "Texting dictionary of Acronyms" first edition 2009 , RTM means read the manual, I guess I can imagine what the extra F stands for, am I going in the right direction?

Have you considered that maybe some guys just don't do well with formal manuals even if they are very well written? I think sometimes guys feel more comfortable coming into these forums and asking very specific questions even though it probably is right there in the manual.

Sort of a "social networking" thing.

Just my 0.2

This is fine, no problems answering those sort of questions. The ones that ask "how do i plug my RX in?" are the ones that get the RTFM response, since it is clear they haven't.

My suggestion to folks is, read the manual first (its actually pretty good), then if you have questions come ask, the vast majority will happily help. It just gets irritating answering the same basic questions over and over.

Well, that's pretty good advice indeed.

Again, I say if you find it irritating, don't answer the question. Nobody is forcing you to answer questions.

This site is to help no matter how dumb a question one may feel is asked. Theres no need for a post like this. Its stuff like this that discourages others. If something aggrivates you dont read it and dont post something that will put someone down. Not everyone is able to comprehend whats in a manual no matter how simple you may feel it is.

In a hobby with such inherent danger, it would be very shortsighted to not ask a question no matter how "dumb" it may appear. To simply tell someone to RTFM is rude. Everyone has been a beginner at one time, so just step back and remember what it was like for you. Failing that, remember that not everyone is as adept as you so try to be understanding. Failing that, sometimes it is simply easier to just answer the question.

I have some sympathy with both sides of the argument. Sure, help where you can, and if you don't want to then don't, but some effort on the part of the people asking questions is surely not asking too much. I know some people are different, and like the social side of asking for help. I myself do not get to a club to share ideas and ask questions, so if I'm stuck I come on here, but come on, when it is practically the first line of the manual, in big bold letters, "Do not do this". you have to wonder. Again though, I agree with the other people, that say help/answer if you want, and don't if you don't want to. I quite like helping, so I have answered the same questions over and over again, and don't really mind, but I can see how it might frustrate others. Whether it is worth raising as a topic in its own right I have to wonder. Still, I and others posted in it, so perhaps it must be, lol.

Cheers

Sutty

Sutty, you and I are in the same boat. No club. I learned the hard way by reading manuals, making mistakes, and asking. It was costly.

Thanks for posting the link.

scot s is on a brief vacation from HF.
Repetitive disrespect of you, the members.

The points made are valid also, regarding supplemental support and manuals are not. Often well written for understanding. And sometimes contain mistakes and have omissions.

This occurs in full.scale as well as in software and hardware manuals in IT where I work.

In the hobby they are even less reliable as a single source of information.

hey no problem i knew the thread was familiar then seen it was frm the same guy, lol i guess he was frustrated about the same questions over and over. i see both sides of the argument too but i wish peopl would atleast scroll thru 1 or 2 pages of threads before posting to see if their question has been asked before. sometimes ill go thru 10 pages looking for an answer and sure enough its always there, but i am guilty of just trying to get a quick answer and not doing the legwork.
