Default Is it safe to upgrade?

I haven't seen any reports of failures or problems in a while.

I have a CC Ice2 HV 120 and running version 3.27. Is it safe to upgrade to 4.01 or just stay at the current version.

Any horror stories we need to be aware of

V4.00 was the one with problems. V4.01 needs to have a couple of parameters changed if you upgrade from 3.27.

For V4.01 increase start power. Most settle on somewhere between 80 and 100. I would just go to 100 and as long as the initial pulse of power is not too harsh you are good to go. Also CC has found some problems with running PWM or 8 with V4.01. If you were using 8 kick it up to 12 but do not try the Outrunner mode.

I have been running ICE2 120 for several months on V4.01 and it’s always been rock solid. I really like the new governor as it’s smoother and holds headspeed better.

If you are happy with 3.27 and are not using the governor mode I really don’t see any advantage to upgrading.

I am using the governor with an Align motor.

I had changed my PWM to Outrunner and have my gain at 15. I know people say don't use Outrunner, but it seems more consistent than when i had pwm at 8. Did 4.01 fix this and hence do not use outrunner?

The logs show consistent rpm and love it. I had major issues when my PWM was at 8, hence using outrunner on version 3.27.

Give it a go with PWM 12 and V4.01 and let us know how it works. 4.01 has many improvements but don’t forget to increase the Start Power when you upgrade.

The nice thing about CC firmware is that you can always go back if you don’t like the new version.

I notice that you said to increase the start power to 100. What is the ideal or recommended value?

So, basically just set up the esc to the specs that Castle has posted on their site for the 600efl motor. Timing is at 5 and it looks like their start power was set to 59 (need to set it higher).

Do the above reccomendations also apply to the Ice lite 50 if I go to 4.01 upgrade?

Ie pwm=12

Start up= 80 to 100

Thanks,

Nick

Yup, but I use 75 start power with good results

With V4.01 they scaled down the start power so you will need a higher setting than before to have the same start. I just recommend 100 so that you won’t get into a start stutter on the first try and think that there is something wrong with the ESC or firmware. If it’s too low it will stutter and not start up smoothly. You can adjust to anything that works after you get everything working. Every setup will be a little different.

I upgraded my 3 ~ ICE100A ESC's.. ( three of them on three 500's..) to 4.01 and two of them stutter even with 100 start up.
Motors are Scorps.... 2 ~ 1900's and a 1400...the 1400 starts up solid.. the 1900's are stuttering like crazy.
Guess I will double check PMW, see if they are at 12 or 8.. ( I believe I left them at 8 ) see if that helps.. but right now.. I'm thinking of going back to 3.27.

There are some setups that just won’t work with 4.01. CC has sure been taking a very long time to find the fix for that problem.

Yeah, I agree.. I'm still trying things out....
I just switched the PMW rate to 12 on the two 1900kv Scorpions, ( they were running 8 PMW and medium (5) timing ) and leaving it at medium (5) timing for the moment.. hopefully will see this weekend if theres any difference.. but I doubt it. If not.. its back to 3.27v.

I can verify that on my 450 (2221-8 motor) and on my X5 (scorpion 910kv motor) that medium timing and 12 kHz PWM work perfect. I'm running the 4.01 firmware.

I'm very happy now. Loads of power, and the motor comes down warm and the esc and batts were cool. Just sport flying though. Just started trying rainbows too.

I hope to give the new settings a try this afternoon. ( kept medium timing, switched to 12PMW rate on two 1900kv Scorps )

Good to hear Newb

After some sport flying it came down the motor was 95.6 degrees F. Man it was great. I now love this setup.

Same setup - X5 with Scorp 910kv. Start power ~89 maybe. Stutters every start-up. I think I'm running 8Hz PWM so might try 12 and see where that gets me. Once she's spooled - runs fine but startup blows.....

You guys that are having a problem should go to the CC web sight and fill out a bug report. That’s the official way that CC identifies problems and puts them on the list of things that need fixing.
