Default Weather

Just checked the weather for my area (Montgomery, AL) Chance of rain everyday until Sunday. what the crap. Glad I did some more loops today, looks like I'll be inside for awhile. Wish I could skip work and watch the rain though. Now the mini cp is looking pretty good, the v120d02s gets big inside really quick. Especially when you're afraid to crash it. when I crash the trex 100 it is ready to go again. Have NEVER had to make repairs on it except change the canopy. Is the mini cp that durable as well?

About the only thing you have to worry about with the Mini is the skid and the canopy.

The skid, between the supports between the upper and lower portions is fine, its the extensions that are the problem. They like to break off.

But, if you can get some stiff piano wire, shape it to begin at the end of one extension, go up the support, across to the other support, down the support and then back out to the end of the extension on that side, you can affix it with heat shrink on the extensions and it will save your skid from just about anything.

The canopy likes to split where the notches fit the front skid supports if the Mini is driven into the ground face first. I just stuck some tape across the inside to hold the cracked plastic together and it works OK. I saw on YouTube a mod for the Mini-CP canopy that looks like it would help a lot though. I haven't tried it, as my canopy is already split but if I get a new canopy, I'd likely try it.

Other than that, the Mini likes to get down and dirty and get right back up again asking for more. I prefer it to a sim because it can take the punishment yet still is an actual bird so that you don't have to learn again what you learned on the sim.

Give 'er hell, she'll take it.

Very nice. Maybe in a couple of days I'll be able to do the same. Not going to get too personal but the married guys know what I mean by that!

The mini and genius are great indoors. You'll love either one on those southern rainy days

Craig, what mod is this, or do you have a link to the vid? My canopy splits right in that area too, and I've got a couple of new canopies I'd like to try and do something with, if I could. I usually put a bit of electrical tape lengthwise down the inside of the canopy to stop it from cracking.

Cool, thanks man. I'll have to try that... Looks like it should work with the genius too.

Now I just have to rip up a set of blades to use.

Actually, I was thinking of using a couple of smallish black cable ties, cutting the locking portion of and trying that instead of using a recycled rotor blade.

Hell, I've got a bunch of chewed up blades (pack-rat-ish type behavior, I know) if you want some sent your way. I can always snail mail them for 50 cents

Thanks for the offer but probably by the time I get around to getting new canopies, I'll have my very own set of chewed to bits rotors.

One thing though, the ends of my rotors are looking pretty ragged yet both the Mini and 02S don't seem to notice. Were I to have tried flying one of my nitro helis with blades in such bad shape, someone would have gotten hurt.

I'll probably finally swap them out with the spares I have when preciseness is more important but for now, a raggedy canopy and nibbled on rotors are what I'm flying.

It ain't broke, or at least not so my piloting 'skills' can tell, so I won't be fixing it just yet.

I've had those rotor blades so chewed up before, there was no yellow paint or blade tracking tape left on there. As long as they're balanced, they should be ok.

They fly until they get chewed down to the blade holders?

You're right though, as long as they are balanced, the only thing needed would be a slightly higher head speed, I would think.

Probably when I can fly on a non-concrete surface will be when I swap what I am flying now with the spares, and then swap back to fly on concrete as needed.

Search for some nearby flying areas. I'm searching now, found one yesterday near my gym. Hope to have some breaks in the weather before Sunday, doesn't look likely though. But i need it to be ok for Thursday so I can go to atlanta and pick up some batteries. Usually go a couple of times a month for training, be nice to pick up the batteries and avoid waiting for shipment.

If you could get inside the gym, that would be great for the mini and d02s... Should be plenty of space to fly on any day

They redesigned the gym so its not as much space anymore. There isn't a court, but if I could find a basketball court indoors that would be awesome! Just ordered my mini CP, where can you find batteries? Ordered some frmo ehirobo but you know that might get here a few days after the heli.

I'm not sure, really. You could try the four hotspots in the US:

wowhobbies.com
Clubheli.com
Helidirect.com
HeliRCstore.com

One of those places may have them in stock, and you'll have them in a couple of days once ordered. Most places are out of stock with them though. You could go with the Hyperion 240mah batteries though, which I would recommend buying in the place of stock ones anyway. You can search google shopping for those. There should be quite a few places online selling those. With google shopping, you can compare pricing, because a lot of places sell the, for different prices. Make sure you either buy walkera connectors, or buy the batteries with them already installed... a lot of them I see come with the UM eflite connectors.

Almost bought some yesterday, then realize that it wasn't the walkera connector. Have you seen any with the connectors? Thanks for the store ideas, I usually just look at and wow, but helircstorehad a super high price for the battery.

I'll check the other stores. Also, posted a message on the Mikado thread and Kyle Dahl responded. Pretty cool that those guys are on these forums.

You may have to look overseas to get them with the wk connector already on. I just ordered some from the states, and spliced/soldered Walkera connectors onto it. Wasn't very hard, really, but of course you have to buy the connectors as well as the batteries, which jacks the price up a little bit, but not by much.

Check out lipomall.com and see if they have any.
