Default Bugs on my teeth, heli in the grass!

So I'm flying around the park the other evening practicing some new, big-sky moves. Beautiful scene, warm, calm, nice light. And my 450's at treetop height maybe 60 yards away (not easy to see), and all of a sudden I'm swarmed by gnats crawling around my glasses, in my eyes, in my ears, up my nose! I'm resisting, but the distraction is just enough to lose orientation, and I slam the heli nose first into the grass from about 50 feet up.

The surprise was how little damage it did. Peeled open the canopy like a sardine can, but its sacrifice must have absorbed much of the impact. Had it fixed in an hour.

So yeah, first crash in a long time. But I'm blaming the bugs!

That's why I bought a Bavarian Demon FBL for my 700e DFC. I've never crashed a heli due to bugs, but I've dumped a few planks due to bugs in my eyes and nose. 3D near the ground doesn't give a good margin of error.

While I don't do slapping 3D near the ground with heli's yet, I have too much money in the 700 to dump it due to insects. My foamies get $1 worth of gorilla glue and I'm back in business.

Glad to hear it was an easy repair.

Bugs have caused me to crash as well. That's why I use a transmitter strap now, so I can take a hand off briefly to swat them away while I get her down safely.

I was flying my 600 at my home field, in the middle of an inverted hover I feel something on my legs,a quick glance down I see I am standing right on a red and hill....I did not crash but by the time I got the heli on the ground the ants were invading my personal space up my shorts and biting....
Not a fun experience but preservation of my bird overrode ...well you know...

At 1:10 you see a small bee or some kind of viscous bug fly by the screen,

It landed on the frame of my camera glasses

You see me shake my head to dislodge it but it stayed...for the whole flight...VERY distracting

Foamie fun 3 (4 min 13 sec)

Stuff like this is why I'm thinking about BD3X or SK720BE+GPS, I've crashed a micro because of a gnat flying into my eye. I'd be beyond pissed if it happened with a full size heli.

Need to get you a bug net for your nugget. I use mine when the mosquitoes get nasty up here. I got one for a couple bucks at the local department store.
