Default Between engine and muffler

What should be between the engine and the muffler? A gasket or some type of sealant? Mine just just metal to metal and wonder if it is affecting my low flight times. I have a os37 and hatori pipe

You can use a gasket or some epoxy just a thin layer. I have some gasket sealant on mine.

I use a thin film of black rtv. Permatex makes it and its available at any local auto parts store. I just put a dab on my finger and spread it very thin on the pipe.

A lot people, myself included, use a high temp silicone gasket. It comes in a tube that you apply yourself. When I apply it I put on a very thin layer. It doesn't take much and you want to avoid build up as it could break loose and foul your glow plug.

Use nothing if a piece of what ever you use get in and fowl your plug then you know the rest, that happened to me about 15 years ago.

On the os37 and GAUI pipe, I don't use gasket material. I use a lock washer and just go out and fly and tighten as soon as I land (while it's hot) after 3-4 flights it'll stay tight. Been doing this for a year without an issue. Occasionally I'll check the bolts and they will take a quarter turn or so. You could also put some RTV or green threadlock in the threads.

There would be nothing wrong with using some high temp sealant. Just use it sparingly for the reasons listed above.

I use a very thin layer of regular JB weld. And let it rest/cure for a day
And after the holes in the exhaust pipe get stripped out, I get a set of the hatori nuts that sit into the aluminum that are used on the larger pipes,

I used to use Araldite (Epoxy resin) but now I just use automotive high-temp gasket sealant. Much easier to wipe off and never had a dodgy joint since.
