Emcotec safety switch
I don't want to hijack other threads, can you guys who use this post a picture with installation on the TDR and link to the site where I can buy Emcotec switch? I really hate to have a "hot" heli.
Thanks!

I'd like to see a pic of this switch installed too...
Which is the item that is actually needed? I saw them on midlands, but the descriptions don't tell me much... |

Thanks Jamin!
I'd like one but not sure where I'd put it on a TDR. No space. Would be great if someone post a pic with one installed on a TDR

Jon Tanner used one of the Emcotec switches for the Model Helicopter World review TDR (Jan 2012 issue). The part of the switch with the removable flag was mounted on the left CF landing gear strut, the electronics module was mounted on the outside of the lower left side frame at the front.

Yes, that links to that German heli forum...
I've tried registering to see pictures, but I don't understand German, and google translate doesn't translate the registration pages |

Interesting, good pictures, what canopy mounts do you have there, I see they need to be fairly short, interested in getting an alternative to the stock.

Those are Tenax fasteners commonly used on Porsche covers. Minicopter used to use them for Joker canopies. They work well but are heavy!

Emcotec Saftey Switch
Hi,
Has anyone used the Emcotec successfully with the Helijive. What I mean is does the Spark Arrestor interfere with the battery Cell count preventing the helijive from arming. I have a TDR with a 12S setup (2X6S), a helijive and pyro Motor. have stuffed around for a couple of weeks now with resistors to stop the dreaded SPARK and even following advise from kontronic 0.5 W and 6 - 8 ohm resistors to no avail. When I wire up the resistor (It has been wired up correctly) it connects fine. Bother the Vbar and the helijive arms but only on the first occasion. Every time I connect thereafter the Vbar connects but the Helijive fails to arm. I have also tried multipe resistors. Does the emcotec fix the spark and obviously give the added benifit of a switch? Will it work with the Helijive? Hope I have not gone of the track of the thread. cheers quentin |

Quentin,
Do you give the v-bar/helijive enough time to arm? I have a similar setup - helijive and SK-720. Sometimes they both arm instantly, sometimes the SK will initialize followed immediately by the Jive. Other times it's the other way around. Yet other times, one unit will initialize, and ages later, the other will... There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the sequence. It seems to me to be totally random. However, eventually, both units DO arm on every occasion. |

The Emcotec will fix the spark problem as you are using solid state switches FETS i believe to make the connection. The problem is that capacitors will always try and charge instantly, hence the spark. I am dithering on a decision to fit one or not. A guy had a crash due to a switch problem out here last week. However he did have the 60/120 version fitted on a 700 size, similar setup to TDR. You definately need the 120/240 size.
As for resistors you only need about 2.5 ohms! Talking to Egroeg last week ( sure he wont mind me repeating) he has used 2 x 4.7 ohm in parallel which is 2.35 Ohm, 5 Watt which may be a bit over spec. He also uses a solid state resetable trip, tiny things the size of a disc capacitor to prevent the resistors bursting into flames should you be crazy and forget the main connection! This is also bourne out by the guy with the crash, he has a helijive 120 too. I watched him try 10 Ohm, arming problems, 5 Ohm better, the occasional problem, eventually got down to the 2-3 Ohms, worked great. Here are the parts, again credit to Egroeg: you want TWO RESISTORS of these in PARALLEL... PLUS one OF THESE...resettable fuses 650-RXEF160 Tyco PTC Resettable Fuses Radial Lead US HTS: 8536.30.8000 ECCN:EAR99 COO:CN 284-ACS5SW-4.7 Arcol Wirewound Resistors - Through Hole 5W 4.7 ohm 5% T/R TARIC: 8533210000 ECCN:EAR99 COO:GB mouser electronics has them.

Yeah, if you ask Kontronik, they recommend something around 4-6 ohms (if i remember correctly). I think i have 4.7 ohm 1 Watt and it is working perfectly for more than 650 starts, never arm failure.
