My new EDGE Lite 50 showed up today, two days before I expected it!

Only to discover that it's pretty much useless. Why in all my research was it never obvious to me that this thing can't be programmed without an adapter that it doesn't come with? That's just absurd. Just include the stupid adapter instead of a coupon. I'm extremely displeased.

You talking about the Castle Link? I don't think they've ever been "included" with the ESC. They can be stick programmed to an extent, it's just the advanced programming that can't be done without the CL.

Default EDGE ESC

Mine arrived today too. I've already used my discount code and have the "free" USB link on the way.

You only need 1 USB link, so I can understand why they don't include one with the ESC, as then everyone would then be complaining that they are paying for USB links they don't need.

It does seem that the EDGE is a little more dependent on Castle Link to take advantage of the cool new features.

That would be fine, except I bought the ESC for the sole purpose of setting a fixed RPM, which can't be done without the adapter.

My problem isn't that they require the adapter to program it. It's that I wasn't informed that I would not be getting the required adapter in the box. At least then I could have pre-ordered the adapter so I would have received both at the same time. I'm sure if I looked hard enough it would have been more apparent, but I didn't know I needed to look.

Got my Edge 50 today, and the first glaring thing I noticed was that they've more than doubled the capacitance of the 2 caps on the new units!

330 microfarad caps on the old ICE's and 680 microfarad caps on the EDGE's.

Makes you wonder what else they changed.

I haven't been able to program yet, but I did drop it in as it comes out of the box and it's a very nice ESC. Once I get the adapter I'm sure I'll like it much more. Not having a soft start messes with my routine, but I can cope for a while.

The only problem I had was the main battery wires on the Lite 50 were too big for my XT60 connectors, I had to trim off some of the copper to get them to fit. The 4mm bullets went on fine.

I'm also wondering whether anybody has successfully hooked up an edge RPM signal to a VBar governor. Is success assured? Does the connector need an adapter?

i have been running the rpm out to my vbar for about 5 months, works great.
It plugs directly in , no adaptor needed.
Castle says The AUX line out was designed specifically for the VBAR unit.

Actually going to be leaving, in a minute to pick up a adaptor to try it on my 450's "Brain"

Just remember you need to enable the rpm out in the software, and set the edge to external governor mode for vehicle type under throttle

So, is using the Edge signal cable "better" than the old method of a hobby wing sensor on the ICE for the v-bar hookup (it might be cleaner, but functionally better)? I just bought two 160HVs and not really ready to spend more money!!!
