Hope I'll be painting next weekend.

Working on an Airwolf, its been "wrecked" and I fixed the previous damage. Bought it used ):

I've been browsing but it seems everyone wants a glass finish. Not Airwolfish.

First I hope I have the basics, wet sand with 400, primer, wet sand with 800, then paint(?).
Cracks have been fixed with spot putty already and those areas have been finished with 800.
3m painters tape for the two-tone after a couple days of dry time.

Haven't decided on colors yet but more than likely they'll be automotive touch up.
So what do I do to flatten the gloss and keep it looking good?

Ideas?

Most companies that make real (two part) clear coats also make an additive to diminish gloss. For example, House of Kolor has "FA01 Flattening Agent." Their tech manual covers how to use it:

When you use flattening agent in clear, it takes a bunch. If i remember right, with most flatteners it takes about 1/3 flattener to 2/3 clear. It takes a day or two for it to finally knock the finish down, and in months without wash or wax get's really flat.

I planned on doing this with rattle cans.

I've had not much good luck with my airbrush. The few times I used it I just found it annoying.
Bad paint I guess it kept clogging, It also didn't seem very good for covering large areas.
I may try it again but not on this project.

I've seen some matt clear somewhere. Don't remember where, maybe Michael's.
Viable option? Guess I could always try on some spare part to see how all the paint reacts.

If it does not need to be fuel proof you can probably get away with aerosol stuff. I don't know who makes aerosol matte clear. Make sure whatever you get is the same type of paint as your colors (lacquer based, water based, etc...) and test it before doing the whole canopy.

Try out Alsa Softfeel paint, it is just the best.
Clear normally and then add a layer of softfeel .

You can get the Alsa Softfeel on spray cans they are called killer cans.

I think i've felt that stuff on Browning Shotguns, if not something similar. It is a cool feel, never thought of using it on a cano.

Don't know why I'm not getting notifications.

I'm going to use a shiny clear. I tried the Krylon Matt and didn't like the looks.
It really dried matt.

The DuPont clear over the DuPont Bumper Coat has the look IMO of the full size Airwolf replica.

Need to work up the nerve to tape and spay the "black" on.
