Default A good all-round heli?

Hello all,

I have previously owned two small-ish helis; twister bell 47 and the century hummingbird v4. These were good for starting off, but I always found that they weren't quite powerful enough - the slightest bit of wind would affect them a lot, and the battery life was never very good.

I would like a heli I can take to the park on a calm day and have a good fly! I've seen people fly the large electric helis - like the Twister 3d. I want something more stable, while more powerful!

Can anyone recommend a good one for me please? I have been looking at the TWISTER 3D STORM 440, and the Century Swift RTF. I would definitely like to stick to electric helis, and it coming RTF is a big plus.

Thanks,
Andy

If you're on a budget and want RTF the Blade 450 is the only one I can think of.

Thanks for the suggestion. I used to feel confident flying my previous helicopters - do you think the Blade 450 would be a good step up? Also, is much technical knowledge required to get going?

I only have a fairly basic transmitter which came with my century hummingbird v4.

Thanks

If you want RTF, blade helis seems to be the way to go, but building your own T-rex can be really rewarding. It can be done in as little as 1-2 days with the proper equipment, and a big plus is that you really learn the intricacies of your machine.

Hi Andy

I think you have to look at your budget, where you will fly and where you think the hobby might go for you, be honest!

I've got and love a twister CP gold but its really small for outdoors. I believe the storm is an updated version about the same size?

Sounds like you need a TX as well? That's a tough one as an awful lot of planks and helis are coming BNF to Spectrum. I'm using Futaba and I'm really happy with it, except I can't buy BNF stuff.

well you could get the Blade 3D RTF which gets you the DX6i radio. However, the 450 3D is a flybar heli. I strongly suggest you get the Blade 450X which just came out recently. You'll want to get the DX6i seperately or a DX7 if you have the money. The 450X comes completly built, setup, and ready to fly. You just need to charge the battery and bind it to your TX. It comes with BeastX FBL controller (AR7200BX receiver and beastX in one). You don't really need to know anything too technical to get going and it is great platform to learn on as you go. The 450X just flys better than the 450 3D. You will crash it less.

I crashed my 3D twice. It just seemed to head for the ground when hit by some wind. After the second crash, I converted it to flybarless so now I have that and a 450X. I have yet to crash either.
