Basic stamp board with secret 3 wire optical switch and 3900 series 256 x 64 Noritake graphic VFD for tach readout. Serial hookup for smart serial lcd is is not too complicated I believe. I think 3 wires.... display serial Rx to an MCU io , ground ,and +5 volts.

Open source development is fun........

with the Kabi wound 4025 The on screen debug agrees with the scope assessment of the sensor and does the math . The code is attached and will work for halls as well. It could be tweaked I guess. Only a 1 sec refresh rate so tach but it looks to be fairly accurate. The Stamp2 can count pulses up to 250khz so 2 or 4 teeth should be doable and may improve the resolution. Next is the LCD screen and then on to something else. Here you can send the sensors' results to the pc monitor or VF display quite easily in coding. I can mill a wheel I guess but the QTI reflective option still seems much cleaner.

Optical tachometer. (1 min 22 sec)

One thing I did notice about the Kabi on this castle is it takes more to start as compared to SL LRK, When it starts its immediately running at over 2000 rpm !

Well anyway here you go "a proprietary tach" like many of the others capable members have already posted here and a million other places .

Stamp Plot can provide real time logging, customize-able GUI gauges control and more fed through the stamp mcu serial or other offsite sources......

This is free sharing.....

Start a separate thread? Electronic development is a bit hidden now.

Isnt it??? Progress to build things to test the motors I wind, and winds continue. Will share more here with qti and lcd testing. Still looking for suitable casing for my halogen grill.Thinking about whether or not I should try to suppress the inrush. I know large power resistors propbably would have been better but the price I pay is more suitable for a kitchen test stand......

If power out is rpm and torque then it seems the best measurement equipment to go along with a generative brake would be a tachometer and 12 in arm and a load cell. I would not buy an impressive 1000 dollar variety for a "kitchen" test bench. Another parallax device.......

This one can be calibrated to measure up to 25 pounds. More than plenty. Quite easy to also set up a rig to test cogging torque using this device. All you have to do is think......

If power out is RPM and torque id also have to wonder how firstly any of these out runners will ever be as efficient as an inrunner based on the Kw and how the most efficient outrunner in a traditional wind wouldn't always be some wind of LRK?

Also I amended the tach code to stabilize the carriage return.....

I wonder if the Kabi suffers from synchronous crawl. The reason it comes on instantly with the controller at 2K.

Id like a peek at motors operational temperatures under load for more comparisons and conclusions about the motors Im winding here . So I need a few thermistors to place at different locations on the motor. I don't know how you would verify harmonic reduction without FFT BEMF analysis.Very easy to do. I would want to verify a correct reductive winding by seeing significant harmonic reduction in FFT bemf analysis first before going on to any other test. Drives also play a part in the overall efficiency so as many test as can be provided on different drive systems is desirable.

This is my opinion.

Omega can make 0.01" diameter thermocouples....

Thanks,
Send a link so I can have a look at what you are speaking of. The temp probes don't have to be anything special but they do need to be small enuf to place on a the motor in different locations. Mainly the stator and wires I was thinking but sometimes the neutrals on the wye can get hotter than the individual phases as they can see nearly twice the current. Ive really been lazy here a few days and need to get back to work. I'm still looking for an inexpensive case to put the load in. I've also been buzy with car audio amplifier repairs and installs. That kind of consumer electronic work always picks up when the weather warms. U know all the young men need extensions this time of year. LOL

Attached a few photos of the orion HCCA 5000D Im working on. A 2500 watt class d mono amp. It has a wonderful pic brain that needed to be bypassed just to power up the ps before any real troubleshooting could begin. A repair technicians dream with zero schematics . Is keeping me quite buzy. This amp even needs a bit writter to set the gains etc. The tech is really something to watch grow and more and more of a pain to repair!

I think these are the ones I have used in the past.

http://www.omega.com/pptst/TJC36.html

Though, generally, Omega can make just about anything you might want with some exceptions. We used to get them to reduce the transition joint from 0.18" OD down to 0.1" OD so they would fit into smaller devices.

Here is the single layer 700 MX Align tuned for an 1/8 scale hydroplane. 7 turns of 13 ga. in a skipped tooth parallel wye. 133% increase in copper cross sectional area over stock.
Rm .oo5 ohms
Kv 824
Io 3.27 amps @22.5 volts including radial fan load.
Weight 448.8 grams

Here it is on 12s in the FE boat cal.

ABC 1818 calculated as most efficient prop in its database for performance hydro @ 12s lipo 9800 mah

33,940 rpm
153 amps
Pin 6.394 kilowatts
Pout 6.125 kilowatts
Run time 3.85 minutes
Est speed 90.12 mph or 145.03408 km/h
Eff. 95.80 %

In the graph u can see the efficiency doesn't start to drop off till 268 amperes at that is apprx. 12kw and over 2ft/lbs of torque.

For this motors application the full 8mm shaft is what I wanted. Luckily since I scrap copper I found a 8mm donor shaft in an old comfort fan motor. The shaft was in good condition so I simply pressed it out of it's existing rotor and turned it down to the length I needed, and always a chamfer on each end. No c clip will be used so no weakening groove in the shaft. The donor motor also supplied some washers and shims that allowed the axial force that will be seen in my application to be place directly on the inner bearing races. The rotor is secured by the collet and any axial play is removed by the use of pre loaded spring washers and the shims between the can an inner bearing and the collet and outer bearing. The interference fit on the donor shaft through the bearings was excellent. All this resulted in a much quieter running motor. I may post the correct way to mill or grind a flat spot on the shaft. It is very easy with a indexer an end mill or a fixture to hold the shaft perpendicular to the table an transverse bank n forth with a cut off wheel or small grinding wheel making small passes. I brought this motor used and the butchering you see on the original shaft seems to be a typical practice of many hobby dremel-ions.
