Default O.S 55 tuning help

I have an O.S 55hrs that I love. I'm starting to get better at flying and I am trying to tune for it. I run a dx8 with the telemetry module and the head temp sensor. Ripping around fast and doing loops and flips etc. It never climbed over 206 degrees, but when I started doing tick tocs for 10 - 15 seconds practicing it alarmed and maxed out around 250. I'm not stuck on particular numbers but I'm concerned it's getting hot so here's my question.

When doing tick tock, is the engine running on the mid needle or the high?

My thought is that it's the mid since you're constantly loading and unloading the head. The high speed needle would be more like constantly high loads such as funnels and flying fast at max pitch. Am I on the right track or derailed? I'm new to the three needle carb.

Thanks guys.

The telemetry sensors, at best, are a rough gauge. They should not be taken literally, but taken into consideration with other tuning items you notice (Smoke trail, sound).

An aggressive elevator tic-toc on a .55 class engine will likely be more on the high needle than the mid IMO. You are using a lot of the power in the .50 class engines when doing any 3D compared a .90 class model.

I'd take a look at this video, and pay attention to the commentary and sound of the engine.

If you want an example of a very lean engine, watch this:

Those are two very good examples Dunkans tuning abilities may be second to some , but his flying is definatly second to none. I say this because I was at OHB and seen Dahl, Maxwell, Stacy and many more fly but this dude is on a lower level (as in 12 " or less on the deck 80 % of the flight ) then the rest. Truly amazing.
