redbird, that is one bad a$$ heli and you did a BEAUTIFUL job on the restoration. Part of me would love to see her fly, but the sensible part of me has to agree with your choice not to. Thanks for the interesting thread. Makes me want to look into collecting these old birds as I enjoy flying the new ones.

While I understand not wanting to risk the model, I wouldn't have the will power to not try just one hovering flight. A couple of nicely framed pictures of the model in a hover would be a most excellent addition to the display. Also, you'd have the satisfaction and "proof" of knowing that is a fully functional model capable of flight. You can easily throw a gyro on it and remove it after the flight. Cleaning up nitro exhaust from one flight is no big deal, either. Those blades and tailbox should last at least 30-60 sec of hovering flight which is all that's needed with someone ready on the camera.

This thread was a joy to read and view. It's such a pleasure to watch other fiddlers fiddle. and or Heli guy's clean up gorgeous helicopters. A very nice job indeed and as far as the hover shot described above by Jade, well...................you know. lol
Love the work Redbird Thanks very much.

Found a video of a German guy that still flies his Schlüter Cobra, and by coincidence, it looks a lot like mine, enjoy:

Well Richard, I just found a second video of the same guy, more in close-up.
I love these old birds, really.
Mine is still a shelf queen, and I will keep her forever.
Wait, that sounded a bit too much like a wedding vow.

BTW, mine hangs above my desk, so I'm watching her every single day for the past 7 years, and I love her more and more every day.
This starts to sound very, very mellow...

Default Schluter Cobra electric conversion

Hello,

I have gotten my hands on and old Schluter Cobra with combustion engine and fixed-pitch mechanics. I plan to switch to electric engine and collective pitch head. Have anyone here experience removing the mechanics (engine, gear) from the fuselage? It is very tight, and any information how to most easily remove the components would be very much appreciated.

It's a matter of bolts and nuts. Remove the exhaust (there are holes for a screwdriver at the opposite side of the fuselage), loosen the tail wire at the back of the motor assembly, remove the skids and the head, and the whole motor plate can be unscrewed and removed from the bottom. It's possible that I forget something, but I remember it wasn't a big deal, and pretty much only a matter of carefully looking what to unscrew. Post number 7 of this thread shows the disassembled motorplate: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...99#post4111360

There might be some information here to help you. It's a pretty straight forward design.

Was finally able to get the base plate with with engine and gearbox out. Not sure if this engine has ever been used.

Could you please tell the number of teeth that the second gear train have? Could this gear train run at high rpm like 4500 at the exit? What should one do to run high rpm?
