Post The importance of tuning if you're running a nitro

had my Kasama nitro down for maintenance the last few weeks, including a new ring and rear bearing for the motor. Today I flew it for the first time since the rebuild and ran it a little rich to ease the bedding in of the ring.

See the two screen shots from log files attached. The first one - Log 2, is running rich. The second log, Log 6 is 2 tanks later when I leaned it out - 4 clicks on the main and 3 on the mid. The after Log 2 the motor came down at 75C and after Log 6 it was 92C. Ambient was about 28C.

The gearing and resultant motor RPM also appear to have an influence - the two logs vary in head speed by 50 rpm - which is just over 400rpm on the motor. Log 6, the better one, is closer in rpm to peak power so perhaps more cleanly in the power band. I get the impression this plays a big part too.

So being 'on the pipe' seems to make such a massive difference on the nitro motor. I've tested all sorts of foam/plate combos and wire routing to minimise vibrations getting to my FBL controller. In my experience the tune has turned out to be the biggest single influence over nitro vibes. That, plus the right gearing should get it running well.

Just thought I'd share..

(For info I was just hovering - F3C style over cones, with basic manoeuvres - something the Kasama is not suited to)
