Error code #50
I keep getting this error code. It's either 50 or 55 "lost data link connection".
This just started happening on my last few cycles...help

Do you know if your Bump unit has the noise filtering mods ? When did you purchase it, and from where ?? |

It was purchased about 2 months ago from revoletrix. I have a ferrite ring on the comm cable because I have the bumpcharger.com case setup and had a white screen when powered on. It's been working fine until recently. The ferrite ring is large and the comm cable has one loop around it

If you have an ohmmeter, you can do a quick check to confirm : Disconnect all cables and measure the resistance between the power ground (black) wire and the ground pin of one of the JR ports (right-most pin). If resistance is roughly 500 ohm, it is an original unit without the mods, and if roughly 1000 ohm, it includes the modifications. If you find it doesn't have the mods, then definitely send it in for service. Other precautions would be to add ferrite choke to the power cables near the Bump, and make more passes through the ferrite chokes. |

Yes. Add a choke near the power supply, if possible use one large enough that you can loop it through at least once.

Kelly suggested to add the ferrite near the bump. I could do that with one ring which I already have. Adding rings to close to the power supply would use two which I don't have. Unless it only needs to do on the positive side

I would always use separate chokes - the choke kills RF, but it also *couples* RF to some degree across all conductors passing through it. This coupling is normally a good (or at least neutral) when all the conductors are performing a similar purpose (i.e. all power wires or all comm wires), but mixing them could have a negative impact on noise reduction.

I had no luck adding chokes near the BC. Only by placing two chokes immediately after the power supply (one on each lead) was I able to eliminate all of my "lost connection" errors running the DPL at capacity. This is with an original, unmodified BUMP. I still kept the chokes near the BC as well, for good measure.
This purchase was very helpful: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DF09VEC

However, that was the last thing I tried. First I tried chokes on the two JR cables (DPL, so I'm using two channels). Then I added a choke on the power cable going into the BUMP. When all of that failed, then I added chokes on the leads coming off the PS. I left all the chokes in place that I added as I worked up to the final solution. Therefore, I couldn't say for sure whether removing any of them would have an effect. I could test that, of course, but I kind of like that it's working so I'm not inclined to mess with it.

Sometimes it will go through its charge cycle successfully and sometimes the code pops up before it's half done :/

Keep in mind that we made it all the way through months of beta testing without seeing the issue before we saw it in the first batch of production units Ferrite chokes are a good thing, but don't waste too much time and effort (and frustration) before you send the Bump in for the noise filter service - it will fix the problem without the need for ferrite chokes (although I would still recommend using them to add some extra protection and improve touchscreen precision and performance). |

With 5 total ferrite chokes installed (one on each lead from the PS, one on each lead of the BC near the housing, and one on the JR cable) I'm STILL getting error code #50!!!!! This is becoming verrrrry frustrating

In that case I would send it in for the update.

I just did the latest update and it seemed to be working fine again. If it punks out on me once more I'll be sending it in :/
